Mojang, Google Team Up for Minecraft Anniversary Search Engine Surprise

Mojang, the studio behind Minecraft, has teamed up with Google to celebrate the game's 15th anniversary on May 17. This collaboration introduces an Easter egg on the Google search engine, allowing users to experience mining just like in the game.

To access the Easter egg, users need to search for terms like Minecraft, Minecraft Bedrock Edition, Minecraft Dungeons, or Minecraft Steve. A small Minecraft icon will appear on the screen as a button. Clicking it will bring up a hand icon, which lets users break parts of the page.

Interactive Google Search Feature

As users break more parts of the page, they will reveal different biomes, such as The Nether and The End. To exit the feature, users can click the X at the bottom of the screen, causing a creeper to appear and explode, resetting everything back to normal.

Google's search engine is known for its Easter eggs. For instance, searching "Pac-Man Doodle" allows users to play Pac-Man, and searching "Total Eclipse 2024" makes the screen mimic an eclipse.

Potential for Minecraft to Come to Steam

In recent years, Xbox's strategy has included making its games available on both consoles and Windows PC platforms, including Steam. Many of Xbox's first-party games are available on Steam, but Minecraft has been a notable exception.

Currently, Minecraft requires a separate launcher for the Java Edition, and the Bedrock Edition is only available on console storefronts and the Microsoft Store. However, there are signs that this might change soon. Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends are already on Steam, so it seems logical for Minecraft to follow.

Recently, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers noticed a new perk offering 500 Minecoins for use in the Minecraft Marketplace. The disclaimer text mentioned Minecraft: Bedrock Edition for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC, or Steam. This mention of Steam is intriguing, as Minecraft: Bedrock Edition is not currently available on Steam.

While this mention does not guarantee anything, it has raised hopes that Minecraft might soon be available on Steam.
