Men of War 2 was just released on Steam on May 15, 2024, and brings the first full sequel to the highly popular classic real-time strategy (RTS) game after more than a decade.
Since its release in 2008, Men of War has received a variety of would-be successors, including Red Tide, Vietnam, Assault Squad, and others. But Men of War 2, the first full follow-up, brings three single-player campaigns.
Men of War 2 Release
The first put players on the Eastern Front so that they could lead the Soviet defense during 1942 and 1943. The second gives you control of an American officer who commands a squad during the Normandy invasion of 1944.
The last campaign is set in Berlin, where an alienated, veteran Wehrmacht commander is making a desperate final stand.
While these are the game's more choreographed, mission-driven campaigns, Men of War 2 also lets you play Conquest. This is a freeform experience that features maps that change during each playthrough.
There is also the new Skirmish mode, which has one-time raids and battles that players can pick up and finish in a single sitting. On top of the new features, Men of War 2 also boasts impressive pyrotechnics, according to PCGamesN.
The game has an isometric view and features remarkable explosions, gunfire, and sound effects that create an immersive experience. Players will have to organize a turret defense, a stealthy infiltration, or a flat-out assault and then watch and listen as the game plays out before them.
Men of War 2 also has full mod support and lets you play either competitively or cooperatively with other people in its multiplayer mode. The sequel marks the return of one of the best World War II strategy games.

The new game also layers in new deck-building elements and improved visuals alongside a variety of solo and multiplayer options. But what it keeps the same is how the original game had brutal, shocking violence that features scores of forces being wiped out in an instant.
Players can watch a single soldier on a mounted machine gun successfully holding off an entire infantry fleet with hundreds of enemies. A lucky artillery shell is also capable of wiping out a terrifying enemy tank, said PCGamer.
Breathing New Life Into the Classic RTS Game
The original developers, Bestway, have come back to bring their first entry into the series since the first 2008 game. They have also shown that they have an eye for creating drama out of what could be just meaningless death.
The combat system in Men of War 2 feels mechanically deep and is incredibly satisfying when players get it right. Unlike other RTS games that are founded on traditional rock, paper, scissors style balancing, the new game was made to be even simpler.
It is where simple bullets can kill almost all infantry units without issue and bigger projectiles will completely decimate light armor. Additionally, explosions will outright kill anything if you hit it in the right spot.
Fans of the franchise have been waiting for a full sequel to the original game after various spin-offs have come and gone between 2009 and 2019. While Men of War 2 continues its predecessor's story, it gives players a chance to see the perspective of each side of the war, according to CGMagOnline.
