Capes is a turn-based superhero tactics game that brings heroes to the world of XCOM for intense, grid-based battles.
The game is set to release on May 29, 2024, and the publisher, Daedalic Entertainment, just released the first screenshots for the Nintendo Switch. In Capes, players will have to build their teams of superheroes, train them, and test their mettle across various action-packed battles.
Turn-Based Superhero Battles
A recently released trailer also highlighted what players can expect from the game as it featured cinematics and various battle sequences. It also showcased the story where superheroes are fighting back against a corrupt organization that wants them gone from the world.
The screenshots that were just released give players a glimpse into how Capes would look on Nintendo's handheld console. One thing to note is that the game's character models and environments appear to lack a certain level of detail that was seen in prior trailers for Capes, according to Nintendo Life.
However, that doesn't really come as a surprise due to the limited power of the Nintendo Switch compared to other platforms. One thing that did excite players is the newly introduced "Rebound" character introduction, which showcases how each hero in the game is unique.
The game is set in King City, a prosperous and bustling metropolis where anyone who is suspected of having powers is taken off the streets.
On top of an expansive story mode, Capes features a lot of side missions that players can undertake to unlock more heroes, earn skill points, and complete challenges while also learning more about their characters' lives.

In Capes, every single superhero plays differently and players will have to understand their unique abilities to use them effectively. The game's turn-based tactics make team-ups and positioning a crucial factor in winning battles.
Players can take up to four superheroes into battle for each mission and each hero gets a unique team-up ability from each of their allies. This would allow them to work together in various ways to take advantage of their combined powers, said Gematsu.
Unique and Powerful Characters
Leveling heroes up will let them gain access to new abilities and powerful upgrades and you can use skill points to unlock more powers. There is also a collection of hero-specific challenges that lets you earn bonus skill points during missions.
Capes also has another feature, which is the ability to disarm opponents, knocking guns and melee weapons out of their hands. This also lets players prevent supervillain opponents from launching powerful charged attacks.
True to the game's core, this particular feature is different for each superhero, for example, Mindfire, is able to disarm opponents from a distance using his telekinesis. On the other hand, Rebound can teleport and be in melee range to disarm enemies while also dealing massive damage.
This means that the character who is under threat from an armed opponent is not always going to be the one best positioned to neutralize them. This further encourages teamwork and strategic thinking on the player's part, according to PCGamer.
