Ubisoft has finally revealed a release date for its highly anticipated free-to-play first-person shooter XDefiant after three years of playtests and delays.
The upcoming title will be launching on May 21, 2024, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Ubisoft Connect. The date is also the same day when the XDefiant pre-season will start.
XDefiant Gets Official Release Date
This will give players a chance to enjoy the shooter before its official first season begins. The reveal of the release date comes after various betas and tests for the game. At some point, these had caused the game to get delayed indefinitely last year.
In a blog post from the XDefiant team, they thanked players who participated in the Server Test Session. It noted that they were excited to see all the love for the game as well as the great feedback that was shared.
The post also noted that the pre-season for XDefiant will last for six weeks before the game goes into its seasonal cadence. Ubisoft has already outlined the first four seasons, which will encompass the game's Year 1 roadmap, according to GameInformer.
The reveal also showed a lot of content that players can expect to see when the game launches and it is all free. These include various factions, maps, modes, and weapons. Ubisoft also said that a new Ranked Mode Practice Playlist will be live in the pre-season as well.

This will give players a chance to practice the game's upcoming ranked mode where they will battle it out in teams of four. The playlist will include 4v4 versions of various maps, such as Domination, Occupy, Escort, and Zone Control.
All of the rewards that players earned during the previously held Server Test Sessions and Insider Sessions will become available at launch in the pre-season. XDefiant is Ubisoft's rival title for Call of Duty and its development is being led by Mark Rubin, a former Call of Duty executive producer at Infinity Ward.
Various Factions To Choose From
The company said that when it launches on May 21, 2024, XDefiant will feature five different game modes across 14 maps, 24 weapons with 44 attachments, and five playable factions. The factions are said to have been inspired by Ubisoft franchises and each brings unique gameplay buffs and abilities, said IGN.
The factions in the upcoming game will offer players a choice between two active abilities, one passive buff, and an ultra ability that needs to be charged up. One of the factions that were shown is Echelon from the Splinter Cell series.
This focuses on stealth technology to reveal enemy locations and render themselves invisible on enemies' maps. On the other hand, Libertad from Far Cry is great at healing support because of its BioVida medication.
Other factions include DedSec from Watch Dogs, Phantoms from Ghost Recon, and Cleaners from The Division.
During XDefiant's initial reveal in 2021, it was specifically billed as a Tom Clancy game but its original graphics did not seem particularly designed with fans of modern military fiction in mind, according to GamesRadar.
