On top of these characters, the latest entry in the fighting game franchise includes a new character, Preecha, which players will be able to play upon release in early 2025. The game's developer, SNK, announced the new title at the EVO fighting game tournament in 2022.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is the first new game in the franchise in more than two decades. The fighting game series is one of SNK's most iconic titles and is also the origin of some of the company's most recognizable characters.

These include Andy Bogard, Mai Shiranui, Blue Mary, Geese Howard, and many other fan favorites. Fatal Fury: King of Fighters was first released in 1991 in arcades and the last installment, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, was released in 1999, according to Anime News Network.

Another one of SNK's fighting game franchises, The King of Fighters, initially started out as a crossover fighter for the company's Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting franchises. Its characters have since become mainstays in the long-running series up until modern times.

The series also inspired Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf OVA in 1992, Fatal Fury 2: The New Battle OVA in 1993, and Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture in 1994. All three of these featured Masami Obari's character designs.

Marco Rodrigues made his first appearance in the franchise in SNK's Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Because of the early English localization efforts of the company, he was known by his changed name, Khushnood Butt.

Marco Rodrigues is Coming Back

The character was a practitioner of Kyokugen Karate in his debut game, which means that he shares some moves with Ryo Sakazaki. A lot of the moves that he used in his debut game are still used in the latest entry in the franchise, said GameRant.

These include Marco Rodrigues' Kohouken, Hienshippukyaku, and Ryuusenken and his Zanretsuken has seemingly been repurposed into the latest game's REV Blow mechanic. The character can also be seen demonstrating his moves against Tizoc.

SNK also showed fans a glimpse into Marco Rodrigues' story in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, revealing that he is the assistant instructor of the Kyokugen Karate doo and fighting style. After the sign of his dojo gets stolen, he has to change training places, which is Yuri Sakazaki's Fitness club.

Many fans had wanted to see the character make a comeback with his iconic pompadour and hard-hitting karate moves. With the latest reveal, many players are hoping that other fan favorites will also return to the franchise.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is coming as SNK's King of Fighters XV has had generally positive feedback from the community. Additionally, many fans are ecstatic that high-level competitive play still receives support, according to VG247.
