Sonic Frontiers 2 is rumored to be in development and insiders claim that the game will be a direct sequel, gameplay-wise, to the original title that was released on Nov. 8, 2022.
The rumors also suggest that the new game will be released under a different name. The information regarding the development of this Sonic Frontiers 2 game was first shared by DanielRPK but was later corroborated by @MbKKssTBhz5 on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The two users both had a good track record with regard to reporting on insider information related to video games. MbKKssTBhz5 later elaborated on the Sonic Frontiers 2 news, saying that the title is a sequel but could have a change in its name.
The first game received generally favorable mixed reviews depending on the console platform that it was on. Sonic Frontiers was released on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch, according to Insider Gaming.
Sega announced on Dec. 12, 2022, that Sonic Frontiers had sold more than 2.5 million copies worldwide. The company also announced in May 2023 that the game had sold more than 3.5 million units as of that date.
Despite the rumors about the new Sonic Frontiers 2 game, there is currently no information or leaks about a potential release date or when it began development. On top of sharing information about the new potential title, MbKKssTBhz5 also shared information about Sega games.

He said that all of the new games by the company will be coming to Nintnedo's unannounced next platform. The leaker also suggested that Sega is currently working on a new Virtua Fighter entry. One of their latest leaks was that the company was working on a remake of Sonic Heroes that was released in 2003, said WCCFTech.
The rumors of Sonic Frontiers 2 come as there are many other projects in the franchise that are being developed right now. The most notable of these is the Knuckles TV series that aired on Apr. 26, 2024.
Various Sonic Projects
The show was inspired by the red-colored Echidna warrior due to the relative success of the first two Sonic movies. A third movie has been announced and the latest news about the film is that its leading antagonist, the black-haired Shadow, will be voiced by John Wick's Keanu Reeves.
There is also an upcoming update for Sonic Dream Team that will add post-launch content but there has not been much information regarding what that would include. There are new LEGO sets that will feature Knuckles, Rogue, and Shadow.
Despite all of the juicy projects that Sonic fans are eagerly waiting for, there could be more that have not yet been announced. It is worth noting that Sonic Team recently declared that this year is the Year of Shadow.
Fans are now speculating whether or not they will be able to see further games being announced for this fall during the various summer events that will come in the next few months, according to Comic Book.
