The release of Braid, Anniversary Edition has been delayed once again despite already being three years behind its original schedule but will add dozens of redesigned levels.
The latest release comes 16 years after the launch of the original game and the delay was announced just 12 days before the scheduled release. Fortunately, this time it is only a short delay, and Braid, Anniversary Edition is set to come out May 14, 2024.
Braid, Anniversary Edition Release Delay
Braid, Anniversary Edition, as far as updates go, is considered to be a relatively big undertaking and features new soundtrack mixes and variants. It also has "hand-repainted graphics," smoother animations, and more than 15 hours of commentary from Braid creator Jonathan Blow and other members of the gaming industry.
The creator also revealed that Braid, Anniversary Edition will have 14 commentary index levels, 13 new full puzzle levels, and 12 alternate designs. The commentary index levels will be used to navigate the game's 15+ hours of commentary, according to PCGamer.
On the other hand, the new full puzzle levels will feature 16 new puzzle pieces for players to use in order to complete a new frame. The alternate designs are coupled with design commentary that offers players a glimpse of Braid if different development decisions were made.
Despite Braid, Anniversary Edition coming out soon, the original game is still available on Steam and runs quite well despite its age. It also supports 4K resolution, which means there is no weird distortion or wonkiness on modern displays.

The new release will become available on PC as well as on consoles, such as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S players will have to wait a day more as the game will be released on these platforms on May 15, 2024.
Blow described the commentary as "the crazier. Most in-depth commentary ever put in a video game." Players will most likely feel like they are jumping back into the original game when it launched on PC in April 2009, said Rock Paper Shotgun.
One of the Most Successful Indie Games
Many fans of the franchise have been eagerly waiting for the release of Braid, Anniversary Edition as it has been one of the most successful indie games in history. On top of bringing the classic gameplay back, the new release will add new areas to explore and items to collect.
The hand-repainted graphics were made by original artist David Hellman and Thekla, Inc. also promised to deliver smoother in-gamer motion. This is thanks to extra frames being added to the game's animations.
Players will also have the option of switching back and forth at will between both versions of Braid in real-time, according to GameRant.
Fans of developer commentary will be required to play the game via Netflix if they want to get the full experience, as one level will be exclusive to the service. However, players on all other platforms will be able to play all other levels and features of the upcoming game when it is released.
