Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness Players Find New Konami Code After 25 Years!

Players of Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness have discovered a brand new Konami Code after 25 years from when the game first launched.

The newly found code will let you unlock all of the game's playable characters as well as the Hard Mode difficulty. The discovery comes as throughout the NES generation and even in some PlayStation 3 games, Konami hid a cheat code in nearly all of its games.

This was colloquially dubbed by players as the "Konami Code" and probably the most famous example is in Contra which gave players 30 lives. This is something that almost every single player of the classic game used to beat the last level for the first time.

While the company later cut back on the number of games that it included a cheat code on over the years, players have just recently discovered one on the N64 classic 25 years later. The new Konami Code was discovered by speedrunners Moises and Liquid Cat, according to NintendoWire.

It revealed that Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness, which is a remixed and updated version of Castlevania 64, actually lets players unlock all of the characters and costumes right from the beginning of the game.

The code also allows players to jump straight into the game's Hard Mode, which is probably a convenience if the cartridge's save battery needs to be replaced. One thing that makes the code unique is that it does not follow the classic inputs from the NES and only comes close.

When players are at the title screen for Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness, they can input one of two codes on the controller in Port One. If this is done correctly, they will hear a sound effect that indicates the code was successfully accepted.

Other Hidden Codes

The cheat code for Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness is C-Up four times, C-Down four times, C-Left two times, C-Right two times, C-Left two times, C-Right two times, and then L, R, Z.

On top of this code, Moises also discovered other codes hidden in the game's code, which they will reveal soon, said TimeExtension.

Many developers used cheat codes back in the day to test the games themselves rather than being intended for use by regular players. However, by the N64 era, this practice had almost died out with modern devkits making it no longer necessary. However, it still stuck around in some areas as an in-joke.

The speedrunners who took a look inside Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness' code to find the latest cheat said that others that they found could have significance for speedrun records.

While other titles usually dissuade cheating in all forms, others often make use of glitches or bugs or built-in cheat codes as long as it is actually revealed to be in use, according to Metro.

Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness expanded on the story of the original game and added extra characters, including Cornell. He is a magic user who is able to transform himself into a werewolf. Despite being better than Castlevania 64, the updated version still had its issues, such as not translating well to 3D.
