MultiVersus Full Release Will Add New Features, Including Parry Mechanic

MultiVersus is gearing up for its full release and will be adding a lot of new features to the game, including a new parry mechanic.

The first new gameplay footage shows the character Batman by DC performing a combo on Finn from Adventure Time before launching him into the air. While Finn tries to counterattack, the masked hero enters a new defensive stance and can be seen with the word "Parried" showing up.

The social media account for MultiVersus also showed a second short video that features Superman by DC on the ground holding his hand out and seemingly parrying Scooby Doo Shaggy's attack.

The defensive tactic seems to briefly freeze Shaggy in place, letting the Man of Steel perform a full combo punish. Many fans had previously complained about the beta version of MultiVersus lacking defensive options for the majority of characters.

This was primarily because the game itself lacks a traditional block or shield button and heavily relies on dodges to avoid damage. But it seems like the developers are now trying to address the issue using a mechanic that is seen in a lot of other fighting games, such as Street Fighter 6, according to EventHubs.

So far, there has been no information revealed regarding how the new parry mechanic will work in full but many fans are saying that it could take the spot of neutral dodges in the full release of the game.

The upcoming new feature has raised questions among players, including how it would interact with multi-hit moves and projectiles or what would happen if it fails to get the timing right. Other than parries, the latest footage also showed gameplay footage of Wonder Woman showing off some new combo potential that seems devastating when pulled off.

The latest information comes after the makers of the game released a developer blog post that detailed how they rebuilt the game's rollback netcode from the ground up. This was an effort made to hopefully bring a smoother playing and looking experience to online.

Adding a New Mechanic

However, there were also complaints about the new footage as some fans said that the game seems to be slower and character models have grown in size. Some users on X wondered if the developers recorded the gameplay at a lower fps, said PCGamer.

On the other hand, some players have been more positive about the potential of larger character models in the game. One said that they will be able to appreciate the cool animations of characters such as Tom and Jerry compared to before.

MultiVersus is set for a full release on May 28, 2024, following a lengthy beta period that lasted from 2022 to 2023. The launch will also feature a shift to Unreal Engine 5 and a variety of other character overhauls.

Player First confirmed that the game's full launch will feature new stages, roster additions, and a new PvE mode that will offer players unique rewards. With the game's full release less than two months out, the developer has pulled back the curtain on its brand new netcode as well, according to GameRant.
