Rakugaki is an upcoming 3D platformer game that features anime-style graphics set in a colorful world that is set to be released on Steam in the summer.
In this single-player experience, players will have to turn heads, drop jaws, and be bright as they are the only ones capable of taking down the notorious Mr. Buff and his lackeys. They will need to restore color and life to the citizens of Cap City.
Rakugaki's Graffiti Gameplay
The game's main protagonist is Valah who is accompanied by the RKGK crew and they go on a journey to take down the oppressive B Corp. In Rakugaki, the city is the player's canvas and they will be tasked with freeing the neo-brutalist Cap City from the control of the evil B Corp.
They will need to collect secret treasures, discover hidden paths, and light up the cold and gray concrete with their graffiti. Players will be able to chain together jumps, dashes, glides, and grinds across the vast world of Rakugaki, according to Gematsu.
Rakugaki also features the so-called Defacer mode where players can reach the perfect flow state as the world becomes Valah's animated wonderland. You will also have to master routes and speed through the game's levels as you continue to take down Mr. Buff's henchmen in style.
Valah has paint abilities that can be used for stylish traversal, chaotic mayhem, and leaving a vibrant mark across Cap City. Mr. Buff is no slouch as he has access to mind-controlling technology and gas the citizens of the city under his grasp.

The game considers color as power and graffiti as resistance and encourages players to use art as the ultimate expression to speak for the underdog and light up the dull world. Rakugaki offers a lot of paint and cosmetic customization options as well.
Rakugaki was first revealed during the Triple-I Initiative 2024 showcase and immediately caught a lot of gamers' eyes. It has highly detailed, super colorful anime game-style visuals created by a remote team that is spread across seven different countries in Latin America, said PCGamesN.
Bring Color to a Gray World
The game's creation was supported by Riot Games' Underrepresented Founders Program which supplied Wabisabi with backing in 2020. Rakugaki is being published by Borderlands creator and publisher Gearbox.
Wabisabi spoke about the game and said that from the start, they wanted to make a title around graffiti culture, particularly its expression in Latin America and Mexico City. The company's CEO and co-founder, Anwar Noriega, said that they strongly believe in the medium of graffiti as one of the "most honest, purest ways for people to express their minds."
He said that this is particularly true when the message is not something that is easy to take in for most people. Wabisabi was founded in 2018 with the purpose of bringing RKGK to life but took on a number of VR and AR projects to keep itself afloat.
This gave rise to some noticeable AR vibes being seen in Rakugaki's in-game graffiti as seen in the trailer for the game. Wabisabi said that RKGK is influenced by Japanese pop culture, the "golden era of 3D platformers," the 90s and 00s electronic and rave music, and early 90s anime, according to IGN.
