Riot Gets Candid About Why They Put VCS 2024 Spring Split Matches on Hold

On Mar. 18, Riot Games and officials from the Vietnam Championship Series (VCS) made the decision to suspend the remainder of the 2024 VCS Spring Split due to an ongoing investigation involving certain teams within the league. The postponement of matches has brought the league to a standstill, with both the Spring Playoffs and Finals also being put on hold indefinitely.

This interruption could potentially impact the region's involvement in upcoming international League of Legends tournaments, notably the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational scheduled for May.

The Nature of the Investigation

In a statement released by the VCS, it was disclosed that the decision to delay the final matches of the regular season was made in order to conduct a thorough investigation into all participating teams. The league emphasized a commitment to upholding competitive integrity, hinting at potential breaches within the league's standards.

Instances of compromised competitive integrity have been observed across the professional League of Legends scene, involving both teams and individual players. This ongoing issue has prompted heightened scrutiny and a proactive approach from league organizers.

Implications and Next Steps

As the investigation unfolds, the final group stage standings for the 2024 VCS Spring Split will be determined based on results up to week seven of the competition. Results from week eight will be excluded from consideration. Once the investigation concludes and normalcy is restored, playoffs will commence with the participation of qualifying teams determined by the recalculated standings.
