Meta, the parent company of Oculus, has issued a final warning to users who have yet to transition their Oculus accounts to Meta accounts. In an email notification sent to some Quest users and reported by The Verge, Meta revealed that failure to make the transition by March 29 will result in the permanent deletion of user accounts, along with the loss of access to associated games, DLC, achievements, and store credits.

Oculus to Meta Transition
The impending account purge is part of Meta's broader strategy announced in 2021, when the social media giant rebranded itself as Meta. This strategic move aimed to simplify the company's "brand architecture" by phasing out the Oculus brand. Notably, this shift also involved renaming the popular Oculus Quest to the Meta Quest line of standalone VR headsets.
The transition was initiated in June 2022, with the introduction of Meta accounts as an alternative login method for Quest owners. This move addressed a significant drawback faced by Quest 2 owners who were required to use their Facebook accounts to access the headset. The rebranding allowed users to create a Meta account, offering a more user-friendly login option.
Steps for Oculus Users
To ensure a smooth transition and retain access to their VR content, users are encouraged to migrate their Oculus accounts to Meta accounts promptly. The process involves visiting Meta's official website and signing up for a Meta account using the same email address associated with their Oculus account. This migration ensures the seamless transfer of games, store credits, and other user data to the newly-created Meta account.
As the March 29 deadline approaches, Oculus users are advised to take immediate action to avoid the irreversible consequences of account deactivation.
