A lot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players are taking a break after a recent hotfix broke the game's servers. Read further to learn more.
Players Quitting in Droves
Sledgehammer Games released a hotfix that was supposed to resolve the dreaded progression bug. For those who do not know, there was a bug that caused player progression to reset, which includes battle pass progress, player ranks, and more.
The company worked tirelessly to have this issue resolved at the soonest possible time. The good news is that the progression bug is no longer a problem. However, as is the nature of game development, a new update could also lead to unforeseen bugs, which is true in this case.
Now, players have been experiencing massive delays and server instability issues ever since the hotfix dropped not long ago. In a video posted by Redditor Prod_saintsage, the disgruntled player was landing shots accurately, at least from what we can see on their screen. Unfortunately, the bullets did not register on the server side, which caused them to get beaten by the opposing player they were shooting at.
The Redditor said that the opposing player barely got hit when they viewed the Kill Cam, which suggests that there is a problem with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's servers.

Netcode or ISP?
Some players posted their theories about the recent server problem. Redditor Dgtldead12 opined that Prod_saintsage's issue was related to their internet service provider and not exactly to the game's servers.
Another player chimed in that it was definitely not their ISP that was causing this. Redditor p480n said that they have only experienced the connection issues just recently.
Redditor Inevitable-Toe-6272 has an interesting take on the matter. They said that it is not the server tick rate that is causing shots to not get registered on the servers, but rather, this issue is more about hit detection and hit boxes getting out of whack. This Redditor is onto something, especially considering that this problem only became apparent after the hotfix was deployed.
Because of this issue, some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players have quit the game until it gets resolved. At the time of writing, Sledgehammer Games has yet to make a statement about this problem. Hopefully, it gets addressed sooner rather than later.
