Cloud's Dad
The World Preview Book, now available in Japan, offers an in-depth exploration of various aspects of Final Fantasy 7. According to translations by Atai Japan CEO Audrey Lamsam on Twitter, the book reveals that Cloud's dad was "an upbeat and optimistic guy" who passed away long before the events of the original game.
Notably, it discloses a distinctive saying of Cloud's father - "as long as ya got 2,000 gil in your wallet, you could go anywhere and do anything." Both Cloud and his mother Claudia reportedly received 2,000 gil each from him.
Glenn Lodbrock as Cloud's Dad?
Armed with this newfound information, fans are concocting intriguing theories, particularly when expanding their scrutiny beyond the main Final Fantasy 7 titles. Notable characters in spinoff games, such as Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier and Ever Crisis, introduce us to Glenn Lodbrock, a charismatic character who shares physical similarities with Cloud. Glenn, previously speculated to be Cloud's father, owes his friend Matt 4,000 gil in these spinoffs, although the reason remains undisclosed.
While this detail doesn't conclusively establish Glenn as Cloud's dad, it significantly reinforces the theory. It is conceivable that Glenn borrowed 4,000 gil, distributing 2,000 each to Claudia and a young Cloud as a symbolic gesture before his departure. Known for his upbeat and amiable demeanor, Glenn aligns with the description provided in the World Preview Book.
