Helldivers 2, the third-person co-op shooter where players work together to fight gigantic insects and dangerous automatons, has been a successful title since it launched just a week ago. However, despite the massive success, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO, Johan Pilestedt, announced that it will not have any PvP modes ever.
No PvP
Pilestedt said in a recent tweet that he and his team will never add a PvP mode in Helldivers 2 primarily to reduce toxicity from the community to a minimum. "We want an environment that's supportive, fun and where we all are fighting on the same side," he added.
It is true that in games with PvP modes, such as Call of Duty: Warzone and Escape from Tarkov, things can get pretty heated, resulting in situations where members of the community will hurl insults at each other. Some would even go to great lengths to abuse other players as much as they can, including throwing matches or even using cheat software just to gain the upper hand.
User Drewdew expressed their sentiment about the matter. They said that they are sad to know that the Helldivers 2 development team is "scared" to add PvP modes to the game. To which the Arrowhead Game Studios CEO replied: "Not scared. Just we don't want the toxicity that naturally comes with it."
Another user seems to be fine with the company's decision to not have any PvP elements in the game. They said that a small team of developers can only do so much, so they had to focus on their niche.

Missed Opportunity
While there are members of the community who are okay with the company's decision, some were not shy of expressing their disappointment. User OdysseusMichael said that there will always be toxic people no matter what. They went on to say that not adding a PvP mode is a missed opportunity since it can attract more people to this third-person co-op shooter.
Another user seems to be in agreement. Being able to fight against other players as bugs or automatons is a really interesting concept. However, such a game mode is tricky because then, the developers would have to think about game balancing, introducing new maps, and so much more.
What do you think? Is the decision not to add a PvP mode to Helldivers 2 the right choice or is it a missed opportunity? Let us know in the comments!
