Tekken 8 was released not long ago but it has quickly become one of the most popular fighting games in 2024. Although the game is enjoying impressive player counts given the popularity of the franchise, it seems that the Ranked Ladder is plagued by "pluggers" and cheaters, so much so that the community wants the developers to do something about them quickly.
Riddled with Pluggers
The popular fighting game allows players to go online and fight against others. In fact, Tekken 8 has gotten better in terms of filtering out players who cannot establish a good and consistent connection with each other. Despite this, however, there are some who will do anything they can just to retain their standing.
User Momo-Dog posted on X/Twitter a video of a "plugger" who ended the match abruptly by forcibly disconnecting themselves from the match. Such players would either cut their wifi connection off just before a full combo is unleashed or unplug their LAN cables to achieve a similar result.
The problem with this is that if players were able to rack up some wins prior to encountering pluggers, they would lose that win streak. This forces them to establish a new win streak in order to rank up, which can be a frustrating experience.
Over on Reddit, a disgruntled player shared their experience with another plugger. They said that they were not that good of a player, but they somehow managed to get a 16-fight win streak. Things did not end well for the player, however, because the plugger decided to end that streak by forcibly disconnecting themselves from the game.
Some players chimed in about what punishments should be doled out to pluggers. Redditor JoshM-512 said that pluggers should get an automatic rank demotion to help deter them from doing something stupid.
Another user replied that demoting one's rank, especially for those who legitimately have problems with their internet connection, might be too harsh of a punishment.

Cheating Problem
Aside from pluggers, Tekken 8 is suffering from cheaters as well. One Redditor posted a video of what appears to be an "instant kill" script that immediately kills an opponent without even throwing a single punch.
The good news is that no less than Tekken 8's Game Director himself, Katsuhiro Harada, said that he and his team are investigating reports about cheaters in Ranked Play. Those who are found to do something out of the ordinary will have their rank data reset and their accounts possibly banned.
Do you play Tekken 8? If so, have you encountered pluggers or cheaters during your time playing the game?
