Things are not looking good for the co-op shooter Payday 3 after the game saw a dramatic decline in player count four months after it was officially released.
Low Player Count
Payday 3 was supposed to be a smash hit, especially considering that Starbreeze Studios had much success with its predecessor. Unfortunately, to say that the company's latest co-op shooter had a rough launch is an understatement.
When the company released Payday 3 back on September 18 of last year, players were unable to log into the game due to major server issues. Although Starbreeze Studios was able to resolve that, players quickly saw that the game lacked some basic features that are normally present in co-op shooters, such as in-game voice chat.
Players also pointed out that Payday 3 severely lacks content, which made them shy away from the co-op shooter shortly after firing it up.
Due to the issues that plagued the game since launch, it's unsurprising that it has a very low player count. According to its Steam Charts, Payday 3 only has a 24-hour peak of 534 players. As if that's not bad enough, the game has an all-time peak of only 69,112, which is a far cry from Payday 2's 247,628.

The Road Ahead
There is no denying that the game is currently not in a good state. Is Payday 3 due for a comeback? Well, Starbreeze Studios seems to think so!
A couple of weeks ago, the company posted a tweet acknowledging that the game needs a revival of sorts. So, to make that happen, Starbreeze Studios hired a bunch of developers called the "Strike Team" which is composed of veteran designers, dedicated members of the community, and production teams with the aim of meeting player expectations.Despite the game's poor reception, the company does not want to rush things. "We want to be careful to not simply react, and deal with any possible improvements one by one with the care, thought and planning they deserve," the company said.
Starbreeze Studios is set to make an announcement sometime in February that will highlight the improvements Payday 3 players can expect moving forward.
It seems that the company's plan to take things slow is true. As one Redditor pointed out, the game already has voice chat embedded in the config files. Although it is not functional yet, this is a good sign that Starbreeze Studios is serious about improving its co-op shooter.
So, what can you say about the current state of Payday 3? Are you excited for what's to come to Starbreeze Studios' embattled co-op shooter?
