Minecraft may look deceptively simple, but it is actually one of the most complex games out there. If you find yourself struggling to survive, you are not alone. Luckily for you, this guide will provide tips on what you should do as a complete beginner in Minecraft.

Create a Crafting Table

The Crafting Table is one of the most important things that you can build in Minecraft. That is because it is used to craft equipment like different sets of armor, swords, and pickaxes, among many others.

That said, in order to build the Crafting Table, you must secure some Woodblocks first. You can acquire some by hitting the trees that you can find in the open world. It takes roughly 15 hits with an open fist for a Woodblock to fall down. You will need about 16 of these.

With enough Woodblocks in hand, open the crafting menu by pressing "E" on the keyboard. Drag a block of wood in any of the slots on the UI to turn them into Wooden Planks. After crafting several Wooden Planks, remove any Woodblocks on the Crafting UI and replace them with the newly created planks to build the Crafting Table.

After that, put the Crafting Table on one of your inventory slots and find a suitable place to put it on. Once the table is set, just interact with it to start crafting!

Start Digging

Now that you have a Crafting Table in place, it is time for you to build your first pickaxe. Pickaxes in Minecraft are essential tools that allow you to dig up holes to uncover items and secrets in the game.

That said, you can create the Wooden Pickaxe from the Crafting Table by putting some Woodblocks and a couple of sticks. The sticks can be created from Wooden Planks.

Once you have the sticks, put them in a T-formation with three Woodblocks on top (placed in a horizontal fashion) to create the Wooden Pickaxe.

Gather Food

Just like in the real world, you have to maintain yourself in Minecraft by eating certain foods. Doing anything strenuous in the game will affect your Hunger Meter, such as walking, sprinting, and jumping. That is why you need to get your hands on some meat.

Animals, such as cows, pigs, and chickens, drop raw meat when killed. While you can take a bite from these raw meats, it is best that you cook them first to avoid getting food poisoning.

To do that, build a Furnace by putting eight cobblestones on the Crafting Table with the center slot empty. After that, find a suitable spot to place the Furnace and interact with it. Select the raw meats you wish to cook and wait for 10 seconds. That's it!

Build a Basic Shelter

The open world is riddled with creepers, zombies, and skeletons during the night. That is why it is important that you build a basic shelter to protect you from these forces.

You can build a basic shelter by digging up a hole in the ground or into a hillside. Then, use the blocks you have destroyed as fortifications to prevent would-be attackers from getting inside.

Illuminate Your Life

Torches should provide you with ample lighting in the dark. To create a Torch, open the crafting menu and place a piece of coal or charcoal at the top-middle portion of the UI and a single stick directly at the bottom of it. This will yield four Torches. Then, simply drag the Torch onto your inventory slots and use it from there.

There you have it! Hopefully, these tips will help you survive better in Minecraft. Do you have any other tips for beginners? Do share them in the comments!
