Blizzard will test a new limited-time game mode in Overwatch 2 called Quick Play: Hacked - Quicker Play starting January 12 to January 14.

What is It?

According to Blizzard, Quicker Play is meant to test the core gameplay of one of Overwatch 2's original game modes. This is a way for the company to try out new changes and see how the community reacts to them.

In this upcoming game mode, the company tries to see how a much faster pace will affect the overall gameplay loop. One of the most notable things here is that players will respawn 15% faster. Additionally, taking control of objectives in Hybrid and Control is 40% faster than usual, so players can expect a more frenetic pace for sure.

Here are the other interesting mechanics that will be implemented in Quicker Play:

  • Taking control of the objective point in Flashpoint is 20% faster than normal, and scoring the capture progress percentage is 40% faster.

  • When you play an Escort, Hybrid, or Push map, the initial match time has been reduced to 70% of the original time, and any time extensions are also reduced to 70% of the total time added.

Why Make This Mode?

The new limited-time game mode is part of Blizzard's Quick Play: Hacked series where they test new ideas to understand what the players like. If things go well, they might implement these tweaks to improve the gameplay experience for everyone.

This series is also meant to give players an opportunity to try different strategies that would normally not work in a traditional game of Overwatch 2.

So, what makes it different from the Experimental Cards then? Blizzard explained that experimental cards were only created for players to try out hero balancing changes specifically. The Quick Play: Hacked series is more about implementing things that affect the core gameplay rules of Quick Play.

Now, those who are thinking of playing the traditional Quick Play with their friends over the weekend, do not worry. They can still create a custom game using the standard rules and then just invite their friends over to join in on the fun. Matchmaking will revert back to the original after the brief testing period ends on January 14.

So, what can you say about Quicker Play in Overwatch 2? Are you going to try it yourself once it becomes available?
