Diablo IV Season of the Blood is now in full swing. Players have begun conquering the Abattoir of Zir and getting some amazing loot as a reward for their efforts. While some are having a blast in the current season, other players expressed their frustration over the insane lag that has plagued the game recently. In fact, the latency issue is so bad that it renders the game virtually unplayable.
Massive Latency Problem
Redditor Many_DogUK voiced their displeasure about the massive lag they have experienced while playing Diablo IV recently. They said that anywhere they go in-game, they encounter "rubber banding" and other issues associated with bad latency. Rubber banding is where players stay stuck in one place despite their efforts to "move" their characters. This is a usual consequence of horrible latency, which seems to be plaguing Blizzard's popular ARPG at the time of writing.
The disgruntled player went on to say that they had lost their hardcore character after the "unplayable lag" kicked in. They got mad because they painstakingly saved up 150 Blood Lures just to lose all of that due to something that was beyond their control.
Due to the horrible playing experience, Many_DogUK questions why Blizzard has yet to add an offline mode. This particular feature would have helped people enjoy Diablo IV without having to contend with latency issues.
Diablo IV has always been an online-only game. A lot of game development companies are following this trend, mainly because of the "live service" model, where they continually improve their games via constant feature updates and patches.
Another reason why Blizzard made its ARPG only playable online is that the company wants to earn a lot of money through microtransactions. Players who have played the game for some time know about how egregious the in-game Cash Shop is.

Lag Needs to Be Addressed
No matter what the company's reasons are for not including an offline mode, Blizzard should step up to address the prominent issues with lag that players are currently facing. It could be that its servers need to be refreshed.
Blizzard has yet to respond on this matter, possibly because the main developers are not back in the office yet. In the meantime, some players offered some advice to rectify this situation, at least until the company implements a more long-lasting solution.
Redditor triplehardvark said that turning crossplay off could help improve latency. This feature, for those who do not know, lets people play Diablo IV with their friends no matter what platform they are on. While it was supposed to be a good feature, it does more harm than good, so disabling it for now is the best option.
The latency problem is also likely caused by the huge number of people playing the game due to the Holiday break. If this is really the culprit, then Blizzard should definitely do something about it.
So, have you played Diablo IV recently? If so, have you experienced latency issues as well? Let us know in the comments!
