God of War Ragnarök Valhalla is the free DLC that PlayStation 5 owners can download right now. Here, Kratos is "invited" to Valhalla - a place where brave Viking warriors go when they die. The mission is for players to find out who sent Kratos to this place.
In order to get into Valhalla, players must first complete the campaign. That is because the events of the DLC take place after the main plot has concluded.
The Valhalla DLC is a slight departure from the original game in that instead of a linear progression, players will enjoy a roguelite experience.
God of War Ragnarök Co-Director Mihir Sheth said that the roguelite aspect of the DLC is more of a challenge to the developers. "When we started developing this, we were like, 'Wait, no, this wasn't built for this intent,' but we can do a little bit here and there and suddenly create something that genuinely feels new," said Sheth.

What's in Store
For those who are not familiar with roguelites, they are essentially a genre of games where progression is different in each playthrough. In other words, nothing is set in stone because players have the ability to choose which stats and abilities they want to unlock as they progress through Valhalla.
To illustrate, players will sometimes be presented with two random glyphs that provide different bonuses. One of those glyphs is "Armament Focus," which makes Frost Awaken and Flame Whiplash hits have a moderate chance of granting a Blessing of Runic. The other is "Raging Fury," where the rate at which Rage is gained is increased by 20%.The problem is that players can only choose one, so a decision has to be made. Do they want to have a higher chance of getting Blessing of Runic or do they prefer having a considerable increase in Rage generation?
In terms of dungeon progression, players will sometimes face tough bosses called "Valhalla's Chosen." Defeating them will open up new paths that players can take. What's more, players will always have a new set of abilities to unlock and new enemies to face depending on the paths they have chosen.
It is really impressive what the God of War Ragnarök developer, Santa Monica Studios, has done. Providing players with massive content that has new gameplay mechanics and offering it absolutely free of charge is quite admirable in this day and age.
Those who already have a copy of God of War Ragnarök can download the free Valhalla DLC from the PlayStation Store.
Aside from the new free DLC, an update that was released that fixed a couple of issues. First, the bug that caused the "Flawless Berserker" waist armor to not have a glowing effect as intended has now been squashed. Second, the issue that caused the banner of the "Draupnir Spear" to no longer look upgraded when used in transmog has been addressed.
