Grinding Gear Games has revealed the first set of Transfigured Gems for Path of Exile: Affliction. With the new league just around the corner, which of these gems should be on your radar? What Are They?
Transfigured Gems are a new set of gems in Path of Exile that are specifically made to consolidate the effects of helmet enchantments, unique threshold jewels, and alt-quality gems. Grinding Gear Games said that over 100 Transfigured Gems will be introduced in the Affliction League, with more to come in the future.
To get Transfigured Gems, you must bring any normal gem with you when you do a labyrinth run. Upon defeating Izaro, the final boss of the labyrinth, you will come across the Divine Font. Interacting with it will give you a couple of options pertaining to Transfigured gems.
First, you will surrender any gem and you will get a random Transfigured Gem of the same color. Second, you can transform a skill gem into a random Transfigured version of that particular gem. For example, if you put the base version of Boneshatter and select the second option, you will have a chance of obtaining Boneshatter of Complex Trauma or Boneshatter of Carnage.

Best Transfigured Gems (Part 1)
At the time of writing, the company has only revealed 39 Transfigured Gems. But, there are certainly some that are worth your time. Here are the Transfigured Gems that we consider to be the best of the bunch:
Cyclone of Tumult
The base version of Cyclone Gem was updated in Patch 3.23 in that you no longer have to gain stages just to achieve the skill's maximum area of effect. Just increase the gem's quality to 20% and you should be okay.
However, the new Cyclone of Tumult is a Transfigured version of the skill gem that gives you a 20% "more" attack speed multiplier per stage, up to a maximum of six stages! This is a big deal because "more" multipliers in Path of Exile are calculated multiplicatively, not additively. In short, you gain more damage just by using the skill for several seconds.
If you have played the game using Cyclone before, the new Transfigured Gem will not feel mechanically different. If anything, it got even better!
Boneshatter of Complex Trauma
Boneshatter is a skill gem that allows you to gain "Trauma" stacks. Each stack gives you additional physical damage that will grow exponentially the more stacks you have. While this may sound amazing, the downside here is that you will also receive damage with every swing. The amount of damage you get depends on how many Trauma stacks you have on you.
To make Boneshatter less punishing and more accessible to new players, GGG has introduced Boneshatter of Complex Trauma. This version of Boneshatter caps Trauma stacks at 10. Once you're at the limit, you will lose all of those to gain 20% more damage per stack!
Although losing Trauma stacks can be cumbersome, you can circumvent this by adding more attack speed into your build!
Arc of Oscillating
Arc is one of the skill gems that have been heavily buffed in 3.23. Well, the new Arc of Oscillating is leaps and bounds better than the base version!
You see, the base Arc skill gem chains eight times and deals 15% more damage with hits and ailments for each remaining chain. The new Arc of Oscillating Transfigured Gem works relatively the same, except that it deals 50% more damage instead of 15%! Sure, this Transfigured Gem only chains up to seven targets, but 50% more damage is nothing to be scoffed at!
Blade Blast of Dagger Detonation
Blade Blast builds have fallen into obscurity for a couple of leagues now, but the said skill gem will make a resurgence thanks to its Transfigured variant, Blade Blast of Dagger Detonation!
Blade Blast of Dagger Detonation deals flat physical damage plus a whopping 580% spell damage. The added spell damage is based on the damage of your equipped dagger. You could use something like the Cold Iron Point to increase this gem's level by three for better results! Alternatively, you can equip a self-crafted dagger with critical strike mods and flat physical damage to scale things even further!
