A new Planet of the Apes film is coming, and we've gotten fresh images from the set to continue hyping the film from Flicks and Bits. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled for a July 11, 2014 release and will be the eight installment in the famous franchise.
There's a pretty good cast listed between the Human and ape characters, headlined by Gary Oldman and Andy Serkis as the returning Caesar. Other actors include Jason Clarke, Keri Russel, Judy Greer and Toby Kebbell.
A synopsis for what we currently know of the plot reads as follows:
"A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species."
The most recent film in the franchise is 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which starred James Franco, Freida Pinto, and Serkis. The film was received warmly, raising the expectations for its coming sequel. It was directed by Rupert Wyatt, who is being succeeded for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes by Matt Reeves, who directed monster movie Cloverfield.
Enjoy these images, and hope Reeves does the same service to the franchise that Wyatt did several years ago. The series has a long history, starting with the 1963 novel by French author Pierre Boulle (which was adapted into the franchise's first film in 1968), so hopefully it continues to entertain audiences with the upcoming movie.
