Chucky is Coming to Dead by Daylight Next Week

The infamous Chucky is coming out to play! Behaviour Interactive, developer of the multiplayer survival horror game Dead by Daylight, has revealed the changes that players can expect ahead of Chucky's eventual release next week.

Changes from the PTB

Behaviour Interactive has made Charles Lee Ray, aka the infamous foul-mouthed killer doll "Chucky," available to play in the game's Public Test Build (PTB) earlier this month. This allows the Dead by Daylight community to test his abilities out and provide meaningful feedback that the developers can use to make suitable adjustments.

And true enough, the company will be making some changes before Chucky is available to all players next week. Scamper, an ability that enables Chucky to hide under pallets without breaking them, may have been too effective. Even though there is a slight delay before Chucky can completely conceal himself, Scamper's original time of 1.2 seconds is a tad too fast for survivors to react. To address this, the initial delay has been increased to 1.4 seconds, giving survivors a bit more time to detect the foul-mouthed killer before he goes stealth.

Aside from that, the company is going to make a couple of adjustments to Chucky's "Slice & Dice" attack. First, the killer's movement speed after missing a Slice & Dice attack is adjusted to give survivors a chance to get away.

Second, to reduce the reliance on duration-extending add-ons like "Jump Rope" and "Portable TV," the base duration of Slice & Dice has been increased to 1.2 seconds instead of just one second previously. The company is doing a balancing pass to make sure that Chucky's add-ons will be more in line with each other in terms of power.

While Slice & Dice has been buffed in a way, the same cannot be said for one of Chucky's more useful perks, "Batteries Included." For those who don't know, Batteries Included is a perk that grants Chucky a slight movement speed boost when passing by a fixed generator. That said, Batteries Included is a bit overpowered, especially in the late game where all generators have been fixed. This is even more evident on Dead by Daylight's smaller maps like Treatment Theatre, for example.

To prevent things from getting out of hand, Behavior Interactive is adding a new clause to the said perk, which reads: " Batteries Included now deactivates when the exit gates are powered."

Trickster Nerf

The changes made to Chucky are justifiable to give survivors a fighting chance. However, the Trickster is set to receive nerfs that will make him less appealing to use.

In the PTB, the company wants to know how potent Trickster will be if he's able to throw deadly blades at a rate of four per second. However, this made him too frustrating to play against, so Behaviour Interactive will revert it back to just three blades per second, similar to the original.

Main Event, the Trickster's special attack that allows him to throw an unlimited number of blades for a brief period, is going to be nerfed as well. The "Event Meter" will now require eight blades to fill up before players can activate the Main Event. On top of that, a few add-ons that interact with Main Event are going to have their effects replaced with something else entirely. They are:

  • Ji Woon's Autograph: Increases the time before a combo ends by 10%.
  • Fizz-Spin Soda: Increases the time before a combo ends by 15%.
  • Death Throes Compilation: Reveal the aura of Survivors hit during Main Event for 6 seconds.

The above-mentioned changes are going to go live on November 28 in the form of a new update. So, what can you say about Chucky and the Trickster's adjustments?
