AcadArena’s CONQuest 2022: Filipino-American Genshin Impact Voice Actors Share Awesome Stories, Tips

After a two-year hiatus, one of the country's biggest gaming and pop culture festivals is back. AcadArena's CONQuest Festival 2022 raged on last July 22 to 23, featuring prominent gaming celebrities in the Philippines. The two-day pop celebration was held in SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. It is the first time that the event was featured in Manila.

Genshin Impact Voice Actors Wow Manila Crowd

Along with famous streamers and gamers, one of the best highlights of the event were Filipino-American voice actors Anne Yatco, Ratana, and Christian Banas. The said names gave life and voice to some of Genshin Impact's most iconic characters. The said trio attracted a large crowd with the awesome stories and voice-acting tips they shared.

A report from PhilStar shares how Genshin Impact voice actors Anne Yatco, Ratana, and Christian Banas Jr. told their origin stories as successful voice artists, starting with how they qualified for such roles to creating the iconic voices that we hear in our favorite online open-world adventure game.

Voice actors Anne Yatco and Ratana were very welcoming to questions as they sit on the community panel. The two Genshin Impact voice actors were nicknamed 'Titas of Inazuma', after one of the regions in the fantasy adventure game. The guest voice actors were very willing to share their perspectives on their exciting yet challenging roles.

Ann Yatco is a voice of not one but three personas of the Raiden Shogun. Ratana Therakulsathit, also known as Ratana is the voice of Yae Miko. Finally, Christian Banas Jr. is the voice of fan-favorite Thoma.

In a report from PhilStar, Yatco worked as a forensic scientist for seven years while attending voice acting classes, which eventually led to her quitting her job, landing a part in the popular anime series Jujitsu Kaisen, and landing three roles in Genshin Impact as the Electro Archon Ei, the Raiden Shogun, and Ei's twin sister Makoto.

Yatco shared with the crowd the process she went through when she was vying for the role. Yatco mentioned that voicing a character also involves creating a backstory for the surface along with the visuals. Yatco goes on to add that the job even involved having to choose the best descriptive words.

"I kind of just put my roles on it and then see what fits and whatever works best for me is the one I pick for my audition," Yatco shares a tip to the eagerly listening fans at the SMX Convention Center.

'Just Keep Auditioning': Genshin Impact Voice Actor

When asked about her tip for aspiring voice actors, Yatco said that the ability to be handed a script and be able to simply read it, make acting decisions quickly, and do it flawlessly the first time. Classes in acting would aid aspiring voice artists in honing it.

Meanwhile, Ratana shares that Yae Miko could be likened to a grown-up but the mischievous version of Blair Waldorf in 'Gossip Girl. In a report from ABS CBN News, Ratana said, "Like Blair Waldorf but grown up and a puppet master. We just kept playing with that. She is a woman who plays with her food. She knows several steps ahead what's gonna happen because she's been around. And her best friend is [Raiden] Ei. So you know she's seen some things,"

Just read aloud something every day, no matter what, advised Ratana. "It might be the text messages on your phone. It could be a book. It could be the words of your favorite manga."

Lastly, Banas, who has a very rich experience as a voice actor, advised aspiring voice actors to keep auditioning and that their break will come eventually. PhilStar shared in a report that Banas began his acting career on YouTube Red's Video Game High School as a background extra during its second season. He studied music and had previously worked as a band director. Then, after being invited by a friend to a voice-over production, he became interested in the field. Then he began learning more about voice acting, taking classes, and becoming a part of the voice acting community.

In a post from July 25, organizers of the said event thanked its supporters for a successful event. The organizers were able to record 33,000 participants.
