Gamers of the hit-game 'Stray' are now streaming live to raise funds for the benefit of various animal shelters and other cat-related charities. These gamers used online fundraising platforms to share their content with the public. 'Stray' publisher Annapurna Interactive strongly supports these kinds of initiatives. The publishers themselves even donated two copies of the said game to cat-related agencies to be raffled off.
AP News adds that along with making a $1,000 donation, Annapurna also purchased Meow Parlour, a cat cafe and adoption center in New York, for a weekend. For 20 minutes, guests with reservations could play the game while surrounded by cats and purchase "Stray"-themed goods.
Since the game's release, 'Stray' has been reported to be one of the best-selling titles on several gaming platforms recently. Even though its developers have not yet released a report about the game's sales, reviews and online comments reflect that the game had a good reception with the gaming community.
With these big victories, the game's publisher has been keen on helping with activities and initiatives targeting animal charities. Annapurna Interactive's marketing director Jeff Legaspi said in a statement that it only made sense for the game to be launching something 'positively impactful and brings more awareness about cat shelters.' The marketing director also added how important it is to consider adopting cats from shelters.
Streaming For Charities Is the New Telethons
Streaming for charities has been done by many gamers and personalities recently. With the establishment of many online fundraising platforms as well as streaming platforms that support streaming for a cause, many gamers have put their time and resources into streaming for certain value-laden efforts.
In recent years, the popularity of video game streaming has created new opportunities for charity donations. According to the Washington Post, charity groups and streamers frequently work together to ask the thousands of devoted viewers of gamers for donations. Viewers channel money through a digital pipeline that speeds up the fundraising process rather than calling in like participants did for telethons.
Some well-known philanthropist streamers are DrLupo, Jacksepticeye, Valkyrae, and Ranboo. These streamers have set up charity streams in the past that amassed a considerably large amount of donations for their charities. There are other content creators on the internet like MrBeast whose content is centered on the whole concept of giving away prizes and donations to individuals in need.
In other news, TechCrunch reports that the massive streaming platform Twitch is on its way to shining brighter light for charity streams. In the report, TechCrunch shares that Twitch has long advised creators to look elsewhere to handle the logistics of generating money and getting it where it needs to go, even though streaming to raise money for a good cause is a major deal on the network. With the introduction of Twitch Charity, a new set of contribution tools was integrated into the platform itself. The firm is now expediting that procedure.
