A newly released Stray first-person mod will now allow you to fully play Annapurna Interactive's puzzle platformer as the titular feline. Aka, you can now fully role play as a cat if you want.
Modder Jessica Natalia was the mastermind behind the mod, reports GameRant. It's a simple one that allows players to experience Stray from a cat's eye view - though obviously it doesn't give you cat-like night vision. But it's an interesting way of playing a puzzle platformer like this game, where you normally jump up and about over obstacles and onto beams in third person (or third cat, rather).
Here's a bit of gameplay showcasing the new Stray first-person mod. You can also download the mod now on Nexus if you want to check it out and try it yourself:
But while this could be great if you want to be even more immersed in the world, it does have a few drawbacks. First off, it's not recommended to play the game in first-person if you suffer from motion sickness, as the camera movements don't seem too smooth as of the moment. You can see some janky panning in the gameplay video above, suggesting that the mod is still a work in progress.
Secondly, the modder herself mentioned that some extra changes can block progression. And last, the mod actually switches to third-person when you run, which we imagine is still far better than having to run away from those pesky Zurks in first-person mode. However, if things don't really go as planned with this mod, you can easily disable it by deleting it from your game's installation folder.
Annapurna Interactive and BlueTwelve Studio's feline-headlined post-apocalyptic adventure, despite being a relatively short game, has done pretty spectacular things since release. A lot of reviews are singing praises of the game left and right, and its modding scene on PC is starting to buzz - hence this first-person camera mod. Perhaps it's just a matter of time until this game surpasses original expectations even more, and continues into the realm of gaming legend.
Plus, this Stray first-person mod is already far less terrifying than the CJ mod.

Stray's Runaway Success
When Stray was first revealed, a lot of people thought that it was very different - and that was good. In this game, you don't play as the stereotypical, muscle-bound superhero. You play as a literal stray cat, trying to escape a decrepit, cyberpunk-like city full of robots and completely devoid of humans.
However, perhaps not a lot of folks believed that Annapurna and BlueTwelve's platformer would have the success it's currently having now. Amidst the growing mod community and people's real-life cats getting entranced by it, Stray has actually beaten a lot of the biggest triple-A games. This is an amazing feat for an indie title that doesn't even cost $60.
Only recently, Stray has surpassed freaking God Of War as Steam's highest user-rated game of the year, as reported by PCGamesN. Only a week after it launched, the game has an average user score of 8.61. This means that an insane 98 percent of those who played liked the game.
It's still far from the actual best game on Steam all-time (it sits at 44th place, with the top game being Portal 2). But hey, it's still an incredible feat.
