Sony Allegedly Offers 7-Day Free Trials Of PS Plus Extra, Premium In Europe

Folks In Europe Can Reportedly Get Week-Long PS Plus Extra, Premium Trials From Sony

In a rather stealthy move, Sony has been allegedly giving a few 7-day trials of PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium in certain regions in Europe, according to a Reddit user.

Here's what you need to know about the upcoming PS5 restock event at GameStop.

The Redditor, reports GameRant, says that the 7-day trials have only released in Europe and not the US - but also says that "it's just a matter of time" before US-based users get a crack at it. The offer is also reportedly only available for new users, and requires a credit card number to sign up. The user then posted a link from a Polish site indicating that Poland is among the countries who's getting the run of the free trials:

But while this might seem a little weird to some, it's not entirely new. There is a likelihood that Sony will make this a standard "everywhere" according to a commenter on the above Reddit post. This is considering how the old PlayStation Now service (which has been merged with the new, revamped PS Plus service) always had a 7-day free trial on its own.

As for now, Sony hasn't commented on whether the free trials in Europe are real. They have also not confirmed the availability of the trials in other regions such as Japan and the United States. But the company is expected to share more info on the subject, considering how both PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium are both newcomers in the gaming subscription market.

The revamped PlayStation Plus service was launched recently with the promise of bringing gamers both classic and modern titles for a flat monthly fee. If you go for the highest-tier (Premium), you gain access to select PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, and PS5 games on your console for $17.99 a month ($119.99 a year).

It was Sony's long-rumored direct competitor to Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass, though it is clearly lacking what makes Game Pass compelling to many people: Day One releases of first-party titles. To this, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) CEO Jim Ryan said that offering Day One releases "don't make financial sense," as per a report by PlayStation Lifestyle.

PS Plus Extra ($14.99 per month, $99.99 per year) will give you access to around 400 PS4 and PS5 games, which are among the best games to have come out within the past several years. This includes excellent ones like the 2018 God Of War (perfect timing because Ragnarok is coming out soon), Death Stranding, Marvel's Spider-Man or Spider-Man Remastered, and the acclaimed PS5 exclusive Returnal, to name a few.

Going up to PS Plus Premium, and you get the best of all old PlayStation consoles past and present. As previously mentioned, you have access to select PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, and PS5 games that you can actually stream to a PS4, PS5, or PC if you want (this is via the integrated PS Now service).

At the end of the day, it's your choice which one you should go for.
