A new rumor has said that God Of War Ragnarok's PS5 version will come with two framerate settings.
As reported by PushSquare, UK-based retailer Shop To reportedly sent an email saying that Ragnarok on PS5 will allow players to choose between native 4K at 30 FPS, and "dynamic resolution upscaled to 4K" at 60 FPS. This is basically what the Sony console does when you toggle between Performance and Resolution modes.
What this means is that you have the option to get the best-looking graphics at the cost of a smooth frame rate, or choose to play at a smoother frame rate while sacrificing a bit on the visual side. It's a major choice that God Of War Ragnarok PS5 players will have to make once the game ships out. However, it really just boils down to preference - and that's the true nature of next-gen console gaming.
If true, then this is pretty much in line with other recent first-party AAA PlayStation titles that have released on the PS5. Horizon Forbidden West has a similar mode toggling resolution/fidelity vs framerate, same as Uncharted Legacy Of Thieves Collection (which even has a 120 FPS mode, though we doubt Ragnarok will get that).
This is also similar to the 60 FPS update for God Of War 2018, which originally released on the PS4. While lacking an actual next-gen upgrade, the 2018 title did get a similar toggle for performance and resolution modes if you do play the original PS4 version on the PS5.
To cap things off, the promo email sent by Shop To also mentions a few other things. This includes "multidirectional 3D audio," which clearly uses the console's Tempest 3D Audio tech allowing you to hear enemies coming from any direction. There's also mention of dedicated haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on the DualSense, which Forbidden West also had.
God Of War Ragnarok finally launches for the PS4 and PS5 on November 9th, after numerous rumors of being delayed.

More God Of War Ragnarok PS5 Details
While still technically not confirmed, Ragnarok's 30 FPS/60 FPS toggle is more or less expected. But what about other details regarding the PlayStation 5 version?
Here's something that might not be music to PS4 owners' ears. If you want to upgrade your cross-gen title to its dedicated PS5 version, it's not going to be free. As Gaming Bible UK reports, the upgrade costs an extra $10. This basically brings up the overall cost of the game to $70 should you want to play it with all the bells and whistles of next-gen.
By having a paid upgrade, Ragnarok joins two other games in the first-party PS family that has one: Ghost Of Tsushima Director's Cut and Gran Turismo 7. Other games like Forbidden West can be upgraded for free, which is why some of the backlash for Sony's decision is understandable.
Either way, people who will get the dedicated PS5 version of Ragnarok will need to pay $70, so, that's parity, we guess.
