An alleged leaked developmental build of Skate 4 is allowing fans to play the game early, but the developers are warning them to stay away.
The build, which GameRant reports is from a September 2021 version of the game, has been posted online following the leaked gameplay videos from the closed playtest. EA themselves have seen the build circulating online, and has posted a statement urging fans to avoid downloading and installing it when they can.
The simple reason is because the build was never intended for public use, and unauthorized use of it can be troublesome - more so if it was downloaded from illegitimate sources. Not to mention, downloading and playing the build without proper authorization could lead to legal issues as well.
Here's the company's statement, as shared by Polygon:
"We're aware of an earlier version of the game that has been distributed without our authorization. This build is from September 2021 and was never intended for external use. While we understand you're excited to get into the game, we encourage you to be careful when downloading files from unknown sources (and remind you of the potential consequences of breaking EA's terms of service)."
EA closed their statement by merely inviting players to participate in the playtests. As per Kotaku, the devs promise to "invite more and more players into the game throughout the year," meaning that even if there aren't any slots for the current playtest, you can sign up for a new one when they announce it.
Either way, it really isn't recommended that you play an early build of a game that's still years away. The average gamer can be an extreme critic for better or for worse. You could build an unrealistic view of the finished product and assume that, when the game does come out, it will be as rough as this. Sure, EA doesn't really have the best of reputations out there. But you still got to gie the developers some credit - they are working their bums off making this game.
There's no release date or window for Skate 4 yet. And judging from the recent trailer titled "Still Working On It," the game is still far from being launched.

Modders Take The Skate 4 Build And Run With It
Whatever EA's reservations are against players downloading the Skate 4 leaked build , they certainly didn't matter to a handful of modders who took the build as it is and ran with it.
According to a report by Vice, a group of modders took the build days after it leaked online and created working multiplayer versions of it. This allows people to play the build online together, with a few of them already uploading videos to Discord and YouTube, among other things. Among the modders responsible for this is one who goes by the Discord handle Justice.
Justice says that the community created around Skate 4's leaked build was established for one purpose: to help distribute the build itself. Well, one thing is for certain: fans are really wanting this new game to succeed.
