There's An Open-World Terminator Game In The Works: REPORT

A New Studio Is Developing An Open-World Terminator Game

The Terminator series is already an iconic one in itself, but a lot (if not all) of games based on the films were forgettable. When was the last time you remember a good Terminator game? Yeah, we didn't think so.

As such, there are some MASSIVE shoes to fill for this newly confirmed, open-world survival game based on the killer robot franchise. According to GameSpot, the game is being developed by newcomer Nacon Studio Milan - a studio that only has a single game in its portfolio so far. Either way, it seems like Nacon has got some major financial backing on the game (just imagine how much the license cost) and they've already released a teaser trailer for it:

The trailer, shared by IGN, features a T-800 hunting for something-or someone-in what looks like an abandoned warehouse. Judging by the person's panicked breaths, it seems to be a woman who's being chased by the menacing machine. Who that person is, though we cannot say.

According to PCGamer, though, there might be a few telling clues in the trailer itself. The pair of glasses on the floor of the abandoned warehouse look a lot like the spectacles worn by Sarah Connor in Terminator 2.

Either way, the trailer confirms that the game is currently in development. And by the looks of the trailer itself (which doesn't seem to be pre-rendered if you look closer), the game could be exclusive on next-gen platforms when it does come out. So that means PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and hopefully PC. The trailer also looks pretty triple-A.

Nacon Studios says that as for the story, their Terminator game "takes place in a post-apocalyptic open world and features an original story that builds on the events of the official films. You play as a group of nuclear apocalypse survivors fighting to stay alive in a time period between Judgment Day and the creation of John Connor's resistance."

The time period is pretty vague because there's a massive gap in between. Judgment Day alone spans 1995, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2011, 2017, and 2021. But whenever it may be set, expectations are a little low.

Forgettable Games

As previously mentioned, the Terminator games spanned game consoles and systems from as far back as the film tie-in games back in 1984. But none of them have been considered good, and the latest one is no different.

That game is the first-person shooter title Terminator: Resistance, which got absolutely creamed by reviewers when it came out in 2019. In IGN's review (where the game got a poor 4 out of 10), they called Resistance out for its bland, repetitive gameplay that never improves during its 10-hour long campaign. It doesn't even have multiplayer to try and save its graces.

Despite that, a GameRanx video revealed that the poorly reviewed Terminator game still has its legion of fans. The game's Steam page even shows Very Positive reviews.

For now, only time will tell whether Nacon Studio's title will finally break "the curse," so to speak.
