After so long, fans might finally get an official God Of War Ragnarok release date - though it's not coming the way some people expect it.
According to WCCFTech, the potential reveal date for Ragnarok's effective launch day is set for June 30th. This was purportedly shared by reliable industry leaker The Snitch on Twitter, who posted a GIF of Kratos smiling with the numbers 1 1 1 1 0 flashing on the screen. People were quick to realize that this is binary, and it means "30" if translated.
Here's the tweet, which has now earned over 7.2K likes at the time of this writing:
If accurate, this could mean that a God Of War Ragnarok release date will finally see the day before the month ends, after months upon months of teases. The sequel to 2018's critically acclaimed God Of War was first revealed at the tail-end of the PS5 showcase last September 2021. Since then, Sony Santa Monica and PlayStation has remained mum on further details regarding the game.
This hasn't stopped Santa Monica Studios director Cory Barlog, however, from "tickling the fancy" of PlayStation fans, so to speak. Just over a week from the writing of this article, he teased what could very well be Ragnarok running on the PS5 in a tweet dated June 16th:
Steam Deck arrived…but probably won’t get to play it for a while because I’m currently playing this other thing… pic.twitter.com/OD3JcBE4wk

Before this, he also replied in a coy manner to God Of War creator Daid Jaffe's claims that God Of War Ragnarok is going to be delayed into next year. This made fans assume that the delay rumors aren't true, and that the game will indeed still release this year:
wait, what? https://t.co/PwZpgPKZeX pic.twitter.com/7TNwF3YmSz

Either way, all of this seems in line with a recent report made by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier (renowned for the accuracy of his leaks) saying that the game's release window is set for November 2022. Ragnarok is scheduled to come out for the PS4 and PS5 worldwide.

With these reports popping up, God Of War Ragnarok is slated to be Sony's biggest and most-anticipated exclusive for the year. After the relatively lukewarm success of Horizon Forbidden West (which while still well-reviewed was basically overshadowed by Elden Ring), PlayStation needs a major shot in the arm. And it looks like they're going to get just that.
Ragnarok picks up years after the end of the story of 2018's God Of War. In the sequel, Kratos and Atreus are preparing for the titular Nordic end of days while also facing the numerous other enemies they made along the way, writes GamesRadar. This includes the goddess Freya and the iconic Thor, whose rather rotund appearance in the game more or less divided fans.
The story shows Kratos on the hunt for Tyr, the Norse god of war, as Ragnarok approaches. Aside from that, he seems to be trying to wrangle Atreus' rebellious streak (the tribulations of raising a teenager) while also traveling to new realms that include Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, and the legendary Asgard.
Let's all see what June 30th holds for everyone.
