Now, you can no longer call Hideo Kojima's Xbox deal a rumor, because it's finally been confirmed.
As reported by FanByte, the legendary game developer has inked a deal with Xbox Game Studios to create a still-unannounced "brand new game." While Kojima didn't really reveal any other details beyond that, he also said that the game is one that he has "always wanted to make" and one that "no one has ever experienced or seen before."
That's a lot of hype building and chest pumping, for sure. But one thing for certain is that the Hideo Kojima-Xbox deal will provide the game industry legend with the resources to finally allow him to make the game. Here's what he has to say about the project, while also revealing that it's going to be using the cloud, translated of course:
With Microsoft's cutting-edge cloud technology, and the change in the industry's trend, it has now become possible to challenge myself to make this never-before-seen concept. It may take some time, but I'm looking forward to teaming up with Xbox Game Studios, and hope to bring you some exciting news in the future!
The deal was announced by none other than Xbox head honcho Phil Spencer himself during the recently concluded Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. Spencer called Kojima one of the "greatest creative minds" in the game industry, and someone that he has personally admired over the years:
As for the cloud thing, it wasn't said how and why it would use Microsoft's proprietary technology. However, the announcement more or less corroborates so many rumors that started popping up within the last few years. As reported by Eurogamer, the deal was reportedly in the works for a while, which led to the hiring of former Portal developer Kim Swift.
Swift's job was to oversee new partnerships concerning Xbox Cloud gaming, and it was also reportedly an attempt to prepare for the finalization of Kojima and Xbox's deal. So it turns out that the rumors were right.

Is This New Hideo Kojima Game Called Overdose?
As previously mentioned, Kojima didn't reveal much about his new project with Xbox and Microsoft - other than his words which were used to talk it up as some sort of dream game for him. As such, there is no indication that another rumored Kojima game, which insiders say is a horror title called Overdose, is the same project that he's working on with Xbox.
The title Overdose was leaked by reputable insider Tom Henderson. Writing on TryHardGuides, he said that early footage of the game has been sent to him "under the request of anonymity." In the footage, Henderson said he saw the character Mama from another Kojima game, Death Stranding. Mama was played by actress Margaret Qualley (Death Note, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood).
Henderson reportedly received a message from Kojima Productions telling him to take his article down, which he declined.
The report is temporarily down as I've added a small update but it needs to be approved (the beauty of writing at 6am).

The update just says "Update - Kojima Productions have since asked for the publication of this report to be removed which we have declined." on the report.
For the unaware, the aforementioned leaker has earned a reputation for being accurate - having leaked numerous details of Battlefield 2042 ahead of schedule with almost all leaks turning out to be real.
This is a developing story.
