Days Gone Dev Says Their New Open-World Game Will Have Multiplayer

Days Gone Developer Bend Studio Confirms Online Multiplayer For Next Project

The developers of open-world zombie romp Days Gone, Bend studio, may have given away a few details about their still-unannounced open-world title, which they say will now feature online multiplayer.

As reported by GamesRadar, the game is described by Bend as one "that includes multiplayer and builds upon the open-world systems of Days Gone, but brings you a whole world that we are extremely excited to craft for you. We cannot wait to reveal it to you when the time is right."

The new details about the game were originally posted on the PlayStation Blog. The blog post mainly talks about Bend Studio's history, including the time when they developed Syphon Filter for the original PlayStation. But aside from revealing the unannounced title in the works, Bend's online community specialist Kevin McAllister didn't reveal much else.

For now, whatever you read in this article will be pure speculation - at least until Bend releases some official information.

Back in April 2021, there were rumors floating about that indicated a canceled pitch for Days Gone 2. As reported by Collider, the sequel would've had a "shared universe" and co-op play, which  to some observers is similar to what the studio is doing with their unannounced project. Of course, the project cannot be the Days Gone sequel as the studio made it clear multiple times that it's a new IP.

Aside frm that, Bend also posted a few job listings that links back to the open-world online multiplayer project they're working on. One job posting is calling for a Senior Level Designer, whose job will be "creating level designs and gameplay" while working closely with the Game and Narrative Directors, as well as Design Leads.

Another job listing calls for a Senior Combat Designer, whose job will entail what the name suggests: design, implement, and execute the game's combat system. But that's the end of the info on Bend Studio's next AAA project after Days Gone, so stay tuned for more updates.

Looking Ahead After Days Gone

Despite being considered a "massive disappointment" by company management, Days Gone actually did well in the commercial space. It sold 9 million copies despite being a new IP and having to weather the reputation of being "just another zombie game," writes AltChar. But the folks at Bend are now moving on to the future, and it started with a bit of rebranding.

What people might not have noticed in the original PlayStation Blog post is that the studio has adopted a new logo. Here's what they had to say about the slight rebrand, which paints a picture of what Bend wants to do for the foreseeable future (via IGN):

We set out to create a new identity that would be cutting-edge, abstract, and minimalist. It should feature simple, high-tech geometry but also represent the constant motion of creativity. Ideally it would be the kind of logo that is recognizable to gamers on the street without the need for a wordmark. Over time it should be easily identified as a symbol of gaming just like a certain swoosh is of sportswear.
