After only releasing last Friday the 13th, Evil Dead The Game is now one of the fastest-selling games of the current generation.
According to GamesRadar, the game has already sold over 500,000 copies in only five days - an insane number considering even some of the biggest AAA games don't even come close. This was revealed by Saber Interactive in a recent investors call, which was presided by current parent company Embracer Group.
But that's not all. What could be even more impressive about this is that the game sold that much even if it has been delayed for a year.
PCGamer writes that Evil Dead The Game was first slated for a 2021 release. Then, it was delayed twice - first in February so the devs can polish it more, and second in May which is its eventual release date. Perhaps it was the best decision Saber ever made for the game, considering how fitting the final date was.
As of this writing, the Evil Dead game has also surpassed another zombie title from Saber: World War Z. With the game's success, Saber feels like they could "continue to support it" over time, as presented in the investors call which was posted by Embracer Group, if you want to check it out.
Perhaps this sales success is due to the fact that Evil Dead The Game released for all major gaming platforms. It was made available on both last-gen and current-gen consoles (meaning PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X/S), the PC, and even the Nintendo Switch. With that many release platforms, it's no wonder why the game managed to reach that many people in such a short amount of time.
Aside from that, however, many people can also argue that the game is quite fun all things considered. It was designed as a so-called asymmetric multiplayer zombie shooter, which allows up to four players to team up and smash zombies in the head together.
And as the name suggests, it is based on all three original Evil Dead films created by eponymous director Sam Raimi - as iconic as horror movies can get.

Should You Try Out Evil Dead The Game?
The new Evil Dead game seems to be quite well-received if you go by reviews. So maybe that's your sign indicating you to get it.
In IGN's review, they considered the game in the same boat as the original movies it's based on: it's "way better than it has any right to be." And they might be right. To the non-fan's eye, they might consider the Evil Dead movies as weird, unappealing, and perhaps downright bad. But the cult following of the films themselves definitely say otherwise.
On the subject of the game, though, it seems Saber Interactive pressed a lot of the right buttons. The reviewer praised the amount of player-driven fun and chaos that the multiplayer game gives. They're mostly fond of playing as the "evil mastermind," however, given how many fun and delightfully evil things you can do to mess with the opposing team.
Another review by GameSpot, however, gave the game a relatively lukewarm reception. They weren't too fond of the game's lack of modes or unique in-game objectives in the one mode that matters. With this shortcoming, they feel like the first big Evil Dead game could be a flash in the pan that might only appeal to the original fans of the movies.
