New Godzilla Trailer Shows Previously Unseen Footage, Monster is Still Huge

Legendary Pictures has released a new extended trailer for its upcoming Godzilla, giving us some previously unseen footage of the monster movie.

Godzilla himself is absolutely huge in scale, towering over his predecessors from past films. The monster is estimated to be up to 50 meters taller than the Godzilla seen in 2004. This isn't too surprising given the advancements in CGI, and we should be in for a truly massive action movie.

Plus: Bryan Cranston! The Breaking Bad star is leading the new film, which hits US theaters May 16. He features heavily in the trailer, experiencing tragedy early on.

There have been dozens of past Godzilla films, starting with the original Japanese version in 1954. Since then, there have been 28 Japanese Godzilla movies from Toho Productions, the last being 2004's Godzilla: Final Wars.

There are four American productions, beginning with 1956's Godzilla: King of the Monsters!. The last was 1998's Godzilla, using the same one-name title as the upcoming film. This means that between the Japanese and American films, there has somewhat surprisingly not been a new film entry in the franchise for over a decade.

Modern computer graphics technology should suit the series very well, as a believable, monstrous Godzilla will go a long way in making for a great action movie. With such a large scale title character, we might see something akin to 2013's Pacific Rim, where giant human-piloted robots face off against foreign monsters invading the planet. Check out the trailer below, and get yourself ready for the attack this May.
