In another move seemingly out of left field, developer Bohemia Interactive has both announced and launched Arma Reforger - a new game that acts as a bridge to the upcoming Arma 4.

The game is exclusive to the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC, and will be the first-ever Arma game to be launched on consoles, reports GameSpot. But this game is not your typical Arma game, for it will serve as a "creative platform" where Bohemia's new Enfusion Engine can be used to show off gameplay, modding, graphics, and more.

But while the game is technically available on PC, it is only in Early Access state on the platform via Steam. So be sure to take note of that when you decide to get this game if you want to try it out.
For those who will try it out though, you'll be met with a few game modes. There are a total of two multiplayer modes on offer: Conflict and Game Master. The first one is a team versus team, battle, where each team tries to capture and defend positions, either as Americans or Soviets.
The second one, Game Master, allows players to create their own combat situations. It will also serve as a way to show off the massive mod support that Bohemia's Enfusion Engine is capable of. This mod support is also said to be quite important for Arma 4, which still doesn't have a release date yet.
With Game Master, you can recreate a specific combat scenario that you've always wanted from a similar military shooter, but haven't gotten for years. And this is what separates the Arma series itself from all other shooters out there. The mode even allows players to edit combat scenarios in real time while other players are actively engaging in it, as per Windows Central.
If you ever want to try out Arma Reforger on Xbox One, however, you're out of luck: there is absolutely no indication that it will ever release on the last-gen Microsoft console.

In other news regarding Bohemia's latest reveals, Arma 4 has finally been announced in an official way - almost nine years after Arma 3 released.
But when it comes to actual details about the next big Arma game, Bohemia Interactive is still quite mum, writes Polygon. They didn't reveal any release date or other information, but they did make it clear that Reforger is going to give players a taste of what the bigger game could be like.

Aside from the indirect announcement of the next Arma game, the devs also made it clear that they'll keep supporting Reforger with new content even if Arma 4 takes up most of the dev team's time. Here's hoping that Reforger won't be forgotten in the same way Rockstar has apparently neglected Red Dead Online - more so when Arma 4 comes out.
