Elden Ring's online multiplayer is ripe with opportunities to make The Lands Between even more challenging than it already is. But maybe this one player didn't expect this particular invasion to be so terrifying.
Posting on the game's subreddit, redditor AccuratelyNamedUser told the tale of an invader they call the "Stormveil Stalker" who basically stalked them for hours without ever revealing themselves - then proceeded to stab them in the back to take their runes, as reported by GameRant.
You can read the entire reddit post, which is basically written like something out of a horror film - but in a video game. So far, the post has earned over 27k upvotes and over 800 comments. It's labeled as a "Humor" post, but the experience detailed in it is everything but.
According to AccuratelyNamedUser, the Stormveil Stalker went inside their game while they were in Stormveil Castle (hence, the name). At first, they thought that it's just another one of those Elden Ring invaders who were more of a nuisance than an actual challenge, but things would eventually turn grim as they invasion wears on.
After around 35 minutes, the stalker shot the redditor and their friend with scarlet rot pots from a concealed mission. This forced them to hide for 20 minutes, before they gave up and ran through the area to the Grafted Scion (the first boss fight in the game that you're supposed to lose) where the stalker struck the player's friend in the back, killing them.
AccuratelyNamedUser ran from the stalker, but like any creepy weirdo, the stalker didn't pursue. The player then said they spent the next hour on high alert, all the while hell-bent on revenge and finding site of grace. After another hour, the player figured it was safe - until it wasn't, when the stalker stabbed them in the back from out of nowhere and eventually T-posed over their lifeless body.
"I have never been more afraid of a man," says the player, who also claims that the experienced "traumatized" them and their friend.

How To Keep Elden Ring Invaders Away
If AccuratelyNamedUser's terrifying experience with a patient invader scared you, then you should beware that it can happen to you too. But you don't have to deal with it as they did.
That's because according to GuideStash, you can turn off the FromSoftware game's online multiplayer by tweaking a few things. Just go to the game's main menu, then select System > Network > Launch Setting and select the Play Offline option. Be sure to re-launch the game to apply the settings, and there you have it: no invader can scare the pants off you anymore.
Now, it is understandable that you might not want to turn the online play setting off. That's because aside from AccuratelyNamedUser's experience, the multiplayer can be a fun, new way to experience FromSoftware's first open world. Heck, we reported once on a player who encountered another player named Jesus Christ who went on to do some hijinks with him:
