Gears 6 Is Reportedly YEARS Away From Release, But Fans Are Still Hyped

Gears 6 Hype Is Already High Even If The Game Hasn't Been Announced Yet

Gears 6, or at least the still-unnamed (and yet to be confirmed) new instalment of the Gears of War series, is nowhere to be found. There's not even a single well-placed or an even remotely believable rumor about it out there, but it seems like fans remain absolutely hyped about the game.

According to GameRant, the only piece of rumored information about the next Gears of War instalment came from the GeForce Now leak back in late 2021. But since then, developer The Coalition has mostly remained quiet: until they revealed that they want to use Epic Games' brand-new Unreal Engine 5 for future projects.

The Coalition made this apparent with the announcement that it is shifting resources to next-gen game development with UE5, as reported by IGN last year. But instead of saying that this would be due to the development of Gears 6, the studio was clear that they're going to use Unreal Engine 5 for "multiple new projects in the coming years."

As for the NVIDIA GeForce Now leak last year, many fans pointed out that it basically revealed the release date for the next Gears of War sequel. IN a separate report by GameRant, the purported release date for Gears 6 was November 10th of this year, which would have made it the first big Xbox exclusive to come out a day ahead of Starfield if the latter didn't get delayed (which it was).

As of this writing, a November 10th release date is now highly unlikely. Moving a ton of game development assets to a new engine, even with Unreal Engine 5, will take The Coalition a considerable amount of time to do, as reported by GiveMeSport. This was once again made clear in the UE5 announcement blog post, wherein they said this:

"Shifting to a new engine is a big undertaking, so we want to be clear that we will not be announcing any new projects or titles for some time."

Plus, considering the immense success of Gears 5, it is understandable that the developers would want to take their sweet time and not rush a sequel just to make a release schedule.

A Preview Of What Gears 6 Could Be

There was a certain Unreal Engine 5 demo that came out back in April titled The Cavern, which was made by none other than Gears series developer The Coalition. Here it is in all its next-gen looking glory:

Upon the release of the UE5 demo, fans basically salivated at the thought that Gears 6 could look like... well, that trailer shared above. Granted, everything that was shown in the trailer was marked as a "non-game asset," writes GamesRadar. What that means is that all textures, lighting effects, character models, and environmental design featured in The Cavern were made only for the trailer, and not for a specific game.

Still, it didn't stop Gears of War fans fro hyping up the potential release of Gears 6. So far, The Cavern has earned over 414lk views at the time of this writing. But whether it will be a perfect approximation of what Gears 6 could look like remains up in the air at this point.
