With Arkham Knight currently sitting high atop the bat buzz throne, it's important to remember that Arkham Origins isn't dead yet. As a matter of fact, the game is set to get its first major story DLC later this month with Cold, Cold Heart, and the BatmanArkham Twitter account is making sure you don't forget about it.
The team behind it tweeted a picture showing off a new costume, seen above, that Bats will don to make sure he doesn't get frostbite while facing off against Mr. Freeze.
Teased in January and formally announced the following month, developer Warner Bros. promised that in addition the suit, the DLC would also get new gadgets like thermal gloves and thermocharged Batarangs, items meant to deal exclusively with the frozen foe.
The DLC is meant to flesh out the story behind Freeze, one of the more tragic and sympathetic villains in Batman's extensive Rogues Gallery. But like Origins as a whole, Warner Bros. has some big shoes to fill with this DLC.
Arkham City's battle against Mr. Freeze was easily one of the great boss fights of the game, forcing players to use just about every trick in Batman's arsenal to damage Freeze's armor enough to bring the mechanized monstrosity down. Adding to the challenge was that effective techniques could be used only once. After that, Freeze would adapt.
With Bats' hot new equipment, I have to wonder if the final fight against Freeze will come close to measuring up to Arkham City's, but I suppose we'll find out later this month. But one thing's for sure, it'll be a vast improvement over that godawful Schumacher movie.
Origins is out now for PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and Xbox 360. A story follow up, Batman: Arkham Origins - Blackgate, is also available for the 3DS and PS Vita, developed by Armature Studio. A deluxe edition was recently announced, and is available now on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC for $19.99.
