Paramount Plus' live-action Halo TV show just doesn't want to stop showing off Master Chief's physical attributes, so to speak. And they revealed another one that's once again dividing the long-running game franchise's fan base.
According to Eurogamer, the latest big reveal for the latest episode of Halo is... Master Chief's naked rear. But of course, this move wasn't made to satisfy any person who might want to see Chief's actor Pablo Schrieber naked.
The actual explanation is that Chief, being the badass he is, wants to remove a bullet that got lodged at the base of his spine himself. And the only choice for him is to take off his iconic armor to do the surgery.
Fans were quick to go on social media to voice their apparent disappointment in the reveal of Master Chief's rear end:
Well at least now we know what Master Chief's ass looks like. Thank you Paramount, for truly understanding the Halo fanbase. pic.twitter.com/hVPjL1CpLq

Some folks were even saying that they'd prefer the reveal of Chief's face in the first episode more than the bum reveal, considering it might not be as... significant as the first one.
To be fair, I’d rather have an ass reveal than a face reveal#HaloTheSeries pic.twitter.com/v8obRVYe2C

Either way, Paramount Plus' live-action Halo TV show is deep within its first season. The "reveal" was during the second episode, and there are seven more upcoming ons in the pipeline, according to Decider. There's no telling what other "reveals" the producers want to do for the next several chapters, but one thing is for certain: the show is leveraging its non-canonical nature to tell its own story.
For the unaware, the Halo TV series is set in its own "Silver Timeline," which branches off a lot from the main timeline of the game series. According to HITC, the show's timeline runs parallel to the games' core canon, which means that anything could happen in it. As of now, this already includes the reveal of Chief's face and his other, "more intimate" bodily feature.

Why Is The Halo TV Show Doing This?
Perhaps some folks can chalk this up to Paramount Plus' decision to make the iconically faceless character "more human." And this was already evident in their choice to show Chief's face in episode one, which current Halo dev 343 Industries says is a narrative-driven choice.
In a lengthy post reviewing the series' first episode on HaloWaypoint, 343 Industries community manager Alex Wakeford argued that Master Chief taking off his helmet was his way of earning the trust of a new character whom he wants to help. Wakeford argues that this is a "way to tell a story" in a way that's massively different from the games, which players can control.
One can use this argument to explain Paramount Plus' showing of Chief's bum or not. But it could also be the TV shows' way of making it clear that its storytelling style lacks the interactivity and player agency that long-time series fans have had over years of games. For the show, they're not controlling the franchise's golden boy for the first time ever: they're just going along for the ride.
