What is a DDoS Attack?
Cloudflare defines a DDoS attack as "a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with a flood of Internet traffic."
Those who carry out DDoS attacks make use of networks of machines that are connected to the internet and have malware in them. The malware allows them to be controlled by the culprit behind the attack and turns this group of devices into what is referred to as a botnet.
"When a victim's server or network is targeted by the botnet, each bot sends requests to the target's IP address, potentially causing the server or network to become overwhelmed, resulting in a denial-of-service to normal traffic," Cloudflare says.
DDoS attacks can be identified by the following signs:
- A large amount of traffic coming from one IP address
- Odd traffic patterns that happen during unusual times of the day
- An unusual flood of traffic from users who have the same device type, web browser version, or even location
'Among Us'
"Among Us" is an online multiplayed game released in 2018 by Innersloth. It is playable on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft Windows, Android, and iOS.
The space-themed social deduction game allows each player to either be a Crewmate or an Impostor. The goal of the game for the Crewmates is to identify and kick out the Impostors in the group. Another way they can win is by completing the given tasks.
For the Impostors, the game can be won either by killing the Crewmates before they complete the tasks or by sabotaging them by creating a disaster that cannot be fixed.
