'Gran Turismo 7' Devs Award Players 1 Million Free Credits As An Apology For Server Downtime, Increased Grind

'Gran Turismo 7' Awards 1 Million FREE Credits To Players After Backlash

"Gran Turismo 7" developer Polyphony Digital has addressed the big problems to their game brought about by a broken patch, and they're giving away free credits as compensation to all players.

According to Polygon, a total of 1 million credits will be given away as a sort of "apology" for massive server downtimes and increased grind to get rewards in GT7. These problems were brought about by Update 1.07, which broke a lot of the game's online features. And being an "always online" game, GT7 was unplayable for as much as 24 straight hours because of the downtime.

The free credits are being given away in response to how problematic the rewards for in-game events became with Update 1.07. This increased the number of times players had to grind in order to get decent rewards, which isn't too good in a more or less one-dimensional racing game.

Update 1.08 was released as a fix for the broken Update 1.07, but Polyphony Digital isn't stopping there. As detailed in a post on the PlayStation blog, company president/game director Kazunori Yamaucho reiterated that a series of big updates for "Gran Turismo 7" would begin in April. These updates, according to Yamaucho, will mostly aim to rework the entire game's economy.

Among the updates that will come into effect for the month include better rewards in Online Races, the latter half of the World Circuits, and increased quantity of Legend and Used cars on offer, among others.

How To Get Your 1 Million Free 'Gran Turismo 7' Credits

One million in-game credits in GT7 is quite a big amount, so you'd need to get it as soon as you can. Fortunately, getting your reward is simple.

According to Dualshockers, all you need to do is log into the game once before April 25th. Because if you log in after the date, you're going to lose your compensation for keeping up with the lengthy GT7 downtimes.

What Exactly Happened To GT7?

Long story short, it became harder to earn significant rewards in "Gran Turismo 7" by completing in-game content. This was problematic, especially for prolific in-game car collectors, who saw that Update 1.07 nerfed reward payouts and made them inconsistent-something that the update actually looked to fix in the first place.

Considering how expensive the likes of Legend cars can get within GT7, this was a major issue. Add the fact that the game's controversial microtransactions are also priced pretty high, and you have a powder keg waiting to explode. This is a blot on an otherwise excellent game (check out our "Gran Turismo 7" review), which set the standard for most racing games this year.

With these issues at hand, GT7 players had to turn to their street smarts to get enough in-game rewards. One exploit involving the PlayStation Remote Play feature allowed some players to earn millions of credits even without touching their console controllers, writes NME

But since Polyphon Digital is planning to rework the in-game economy by April, the exploit (which was posted on the PSN Profiles forum) could soon become not so relevant.
