"Mass Effect" co-creator and former director Casey Hudson has announced a new project recently: a new sci-fi universe not unlike his well-beloved trilogy.
The game will be a project of Hudson's new venture, Humanoid Studios. According to the announcement, the game will be a multi-platform AAA title and "will focus on a character-driven story in a brand-new science-fiction universe," reports GamesRadar. Well, this sounds an awful lot like "Mass Effect" in a lot of aspects, but there's no other concrete information on it to draw a definitive conclusion.
Nevertheless, the project is already in the pipeline, and Hudson's team at Humanoid is currently looking for new talent. They posted the call for applicants on their Twitter page recently, announcing that they also have a new website where the roles are posted:

As per Humanoid's website, they are looking to fill a bunch of roles like lead-level designers, senior concept artists, and gameplay designers, senior-level designers, and writers, to name a few. With these job openings, it looks like Hudson's new game is still in the early conceptualization phase.
Humanoid Studios was first announced in June of last year, though it was only until now that word of a major project for the studio has been revealed. It was Hudson's first venture outside of his two-decade stint at BioWare, where he served as producer/director on all three original "Mass Effect" games (except "Andromeda").
Aside from co-creating "Mass Effect," Hudson also worked on the iconic "Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic," according to Eurogamer. He was also one of the folks who worked on Microsoft's HoloLens.
He left BioWare in 2020 to pursue other opportunities and reportedly brought "some colleagues" with him to work on a new IP.

What Could The 'Mass Effect' Co-Creator Be Cooking Up?
What you'll read for the following few paragraphs is pure speculation, so don't take this as accurate information.
Humanoid said that their AAA multi-platform game would have a character-driven story. Judging from this claim, one might expect that the new sci-fi title will be an RPG much like "Mass Effect"---complete with dialog choices that may or may not impact the game's overarching story, and may even perhaps feature recognizable mechanics like interplanetary travel, gunplay, and romance options.
Should Hudson's new game at Humanoid Studios does turn out like that, it will be in direct competition with BioWare's new "Mass Effect" title that's currently in the works. That is, of course, assuming that the two games will be released at around the same time frame. But then again, this is all speculation.
'Mass Effect' After Hudson
Hudson might not be helming the series anymore, but it certainly will return with a new major release. BioWare first shared a teaser during N7 Day 2021: a short trailer featuring what looks to be beloved character Liara T'Soni picking up a piece of broken N7 armor.
However, don't hold your breath for a release anytime soon, as it has been rumored that full development for the game won't commence until next year (via GamesRadar).
