"Halo Infinite" campaign co-op is delayed. Again.
Originally, it was slated to come alongside the start of Season 2 of the free-to-play multiplayer. But as per a recent announcement from 343 Industries, the long-awaited campaign co-op mode needs a bit more time in the oven due to a few more challenges in the development.
In a report by Windows Central, 343 revealed that they've been facing "big challenges" with implementing split-screen support for "Infinite," which is basically the one big thing that defines couch co-op in the "Halo" games of old-circa 2000s. According to the devs, they're looking to deliver a high-quality campaign co-op experience from day one.
Season 2 of the multiplayer is set for May 3rd. But while the "Halo Infinite" campaign co-op mode isn't coming at the start of the season, it is promised to come "later" in the season. 343 also said that they look to share a release date for the feature "as soon as they can."
The delay is reportedly due to how "Infinite" was made. In a report by GameRant, 343 Industries shared how the game's open-world formula has "created unique challenges" with online and split-screen co-op. As such, the devs are looking to ensure that both co-op modes will work smoothly on all supported platforms, including the base Xbox One and the newer Xbox Series consoles.
"Infinite" will be the first "Halo" game since "Halo 5: Guardians" to have split-screen (aka couch) co-op. Back then, the lack of the feature made "Guardians" a controversial game, basically forcing 343 to promise that the next game in the series would support split-screen.
For now, all players have to look forward to is the start of the multiplayer's second season, titled "Lone Wolves." It is set to bring new maps and modes as well as a focus on so-called "Lone Wolf" Spartans, who are famed for their preference to work alone behind enemy lines, writes IGN.

'Halo Infinite' Campaign Co-op Technically Exists, But Via A Glitch
For now, if you really want to play split-screen "Halo" just like in the good old days, your only choices are as follows: go pick up an old game on an old console (like an Xbox 360), or glitch into it in "Infinite." But there's neither a guarantee that it works now, nor it's even worth trying for a friend of yours.
The aforementioned campaign co-op glitch, as reported by Tech Times, was discovered by players late last year and can reportedly be done by performing these steps:
- Disconnect the game from the internet
- Connect a second controller
- Log onto a new Xbox account
- Start playing the campaign on the first controller
- Press the Stat button in-game, then back out of the start menu
- Add player two on the second controller to a fireteam
- Press start on controller two
- Add your controller one to the squad
By following these steps, you should be able to see the screen split. But there are major compromises: for one, player two can roam the open world with you, but you will see graphical glitches, a missing HUD for player two, and an inability to use UNSC FOBs. Furthermore, this can only be done on consoles.
It's been several months, so there's no indication whether this glitch has officially been patched. So try it out and see if it still works, maybe?
