'Star Wars Eclipse' Delayed To At Least 2027

'Star Wars Eclipse' Has Been Delayed To At Least 2027--Longest Game Delay Ever?

"Star Wars Eclipse" might have gotten you excited when it was first revealed last December. But don't get your hopes up at a release anytime soon, because it's been delayed. And it's going to be a LONG time.

According to DotESports, various problems at developer Quantic Dream's headquarters have pushed back "Star Wars Eclipse" to at least 2027, with the latest launch being 2028. That's an over five-year wait from the game's initial announcement to release, mainly due to Quantic Dream still looking to hire more developer talent.

Quantic has reportedly struggled to bring in new people at their HQ in Paris. If you look closely at the French studio's career page, you'll see two full pages of job openings that still haven't been filled. The openings range from environment artists to programmers, animation directors, and VFX artists, to name a few.

In total, over 60 spots remain unoccupied at Quantic's Paris HQ,, with a few of the listings having been online for over two years. But maybe this is due to allegations of toxic workplace culture that plagued the company for the last three years.

A lawsuit was filed against the studio back in 2018 which alleged "long crunch patterns" on every game they released, as well as a manager who reportedly shared "600 photomontages of dubious taste," as reported by PCGamer. There was also enough harassment that led to the studio's entire IT department packing their bags.

Either way, Quantic is not due to release "Star Wars Eclipse" anytime soon, and it might just be one of the longest game delays in the history of the industry. A launch window of 2027-2028 could surely mean that the game will be launching exclusively for PC and current-gen platforms (aka PS5 and Xbox Series X/S), who will by then be close to the end of their life cycles.

For now, all you'll have of "Eclipse" is the amazing trailer that was revealed during last year's The Game Awards. It is set during the so-called "Golden Age of the Jedi," aka the High Republic, which occurs 200 years before the "Star Wars" prequel trilogy.

Other 'Star Wars' Games In Development While You Wait For 'Eclipse'

The five-year delay for "Star Wars Eclipse" is likely one of the longest game delays in history, putting it alongside the likes of "Cyberpunk 2077" (revealed 2012, released 2020), "LA Noire" (revealed 2004, released 2011), and the 2016 "DOOM" (revealed 2007, released 2016), to name a few (via Dexerto).

If you think the wait is going to be way too long, you're not alone. Fortunately, there are other "Star Wars" games currently in development that might be enough to placate you until 2027-2028. Here is everything courtesy of IGN:

  • "LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga" (April 5, 2022)

  • "Star Wars: Hunters" (2022)

  • "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2" (release date TBA)

  • "Star Wars" first-person shooter by "Apex Legends" dev Respawn (release date TBA)
