Niantic announced that they launched the Go Tour Poke Ball Prep Rally event in preparation for the upcoming Pokemon Go Tour: Johto.
According to a post on the game's website, the event will help Trainers get ready and have enough Poke Balls to catch all of their favorite Pokemon from the Johto region during the global event.
It will also mark the debut of Hisuian Voltorb, the Electric-type Ball Pokemon that was first seen in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, along with its evolved form, Hisuian Electrode.

What to Expect
Aside from its Hisuian version, according to Bleeding Cool, the original version of Voltorb will also appear during the GO Tour Poke Ball Prep Rally event.

Both the original and Hisuian versions of Voltorb will appear in the wild more frequently, along with Koffing, Marill, Wailmer, Solosis, and Foongus.
If they are lucky enough, they will catch the Shiny versions of Voltorb, Koffing, Marill, and Wailmer. They will also encounter Jigglypuff, Electrode, and Amoonguss, and Galarian Stunfisk in the wild, along with the Shiny versions of Jigglypuff and Galarian Stunfisk.
The event will also bring in the new Avatar Item set that is designed after the Ball Guy, the mascot of the Galar Pokemon League that appeared in Pokemon Sword and Shield.
The new Avatar Item set will be in the game's shop at the start of the Go Tour Poke Ball Prep Rally event.
Timed, Field Research
Aside from the Pokemon appearing in the wild more frequently, the Go Tour Poke Ball Prep Rally event will also have a set of Timed and Field Research Tasks that players need to clear.
For the first set of Timed Research tasks, according to Gamesradar, they need to spin a nearby PokeStop or Gym, complete a Field Research Task, and send a Gift to their in-game friend.
Clearing these tasks will give them three Poke Balls, two Great Balls, five Ultra Balls, 100 Stardust, and 100 XP.
For the second set, they need to spin three more PokeStops or Gyms, complete a total of three Field Research Tasks, and send three more Gifts to their friends.
Once they complete these tasks, they will get six Poke Balls, four Great Balls, five Ultra Bells, 200 Stardust, and 200 XP.
For the third set of tasks, they need to spin five more PokeStops or Gyms, complete a total of five Field Research Tasks, and send five more Gifts.
Competing will reward them with nine Poke Balls, six Great Balls, five Ultra Balls, 300 Stardust, and 300 XP.
For the fourth and final set, they need to spin ten more PokeStops or Gyms, complete a total of ten Field Research Tasks, and send ten more gifts to their in-game friends.
Clearing these tasks will reward them with twenty Poke Balls, five Ultra Balls, 500 Stardust, and 500 XP.
As for the event-exclusive Field Research Tasks, according to GGRecon, they need to catch two Voltorbs and make five Nice Throws, three Great Throws, an Excellent Throw, three Nice Curveball Throws in a row, and four Great Curveball Throws in a row.
According to Nintendo Wire, once they clear these tasks, they will be rewarded with thirteen Poke Balls, five Great Balls, three Ultra Balls, three Pinap Berries, and a Silver Pinap Berry.
The Go Tour Poke Ball Prep Rally event will last in Pokemon Go until February 25 at 8:00 PM, local time.
