"Dragon Age 4" might finally launch within the next year and a half, according to a recent report.
Eurogamer says that the report came from game journalist Jeff Grubb, who regularly writes for the tech site VentureBeat. Grubb alleges that the initial "Dragon Age" release date is pegged for late 2023, though there's not much detail beyond that.
This news comes after a 2022 launch for BioWare's next "Dragon Age" game was ruled out. Rumors revealed by renowned game industry leaker Tom Henderson said that there's "no chance" that the game will arrive this year, even if it has been in development since 2017-one year ahead of its official announcement during the 2018 Game Awards:
Henderson alleges that EA and BioWare's 2022 release calendar will now include the delayed "Need For Speed" game developed by Criterion, as well as the rumored sequel for the critically acclaimed "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order."
For now, this new delay was likely instrumental to the game's shape, which Grubb says is a "good" one. He revealed this claim in the latest episode of GrubbSnax, a video series on YouTube run by the channel, Giant Bomb.
Based on Grubb's statements, it looks like "Dragon Age 4" is finally on the right footing after a very troubled development cycle. Over the past few years, BioWare reportedly wanted the game to include multiplayer modes but had to go back on the franchise's single-player RPG roots with the failure of "Anthem," writes IGN.
Aside from that, the game's development team has also had massive staff changes. "Dragon Age" creative director Mike Laidlaw left the studio after 14 years to switch to Ubisoft, which he also left after working there for a year (via Polygon).
With these massive changes, one might understand how "Dragon Age 4" has stayed within development limbo.

What Else Is Known About 'Dragon Age 4'?
To be honest, not much. As previously mentioned, much of the game remains shrouded in the dark after the initial reveal almost four years ago. Couple that with the numerous changes it has already experienced during the course of development, and one might understand why BioWare and EA are keeping their cards close to their chests.
That said, there are a few bits of information about the game out there. According to PCGamesN, the latest bit of info concerns the character Solas, which was revealed in a trailer during the 2020 Game Awards. Solas is a fan-favorite character and companion among "Dragon Age" fans.
Since Solas is in the game, this led to the conclusion that the fourth installment will be a direct sequel to 2014's "Dragon Age Inquisition." But if you want to play it by next year, you might need to get a PS5 or Xbox Series console as one of the game's leads designers basically confirmed: "Dragon Age 4" to be a next-gen only game via their LinkedIn profile (as reported by NME).
