A new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 released during Super Bowl LVI revealed new details for the movie, including a possible theatrical debut of Dr. Robotnik's giant mechanical robot, the Death Egg Robot.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is one of the many movies that recently released their trailers just days before the 2021 National Football League (NFL) championship game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Last February 10, Universal Studios released the official trailer for Jurassic World: Dominion, the last chapter in the recent trilogy of the Jurassic Park franchise.

According to Polygon, the "Big Game Spot" version of the trailer showed Sonic the Hedgehog, voiced by Ben Schwartz, and Knuckles the Echidna, voiced by Idris Elba, engaging in a snowboard race.
It also revealed another scene where the two characters fight inside a temple with a mysterious item, which might be Master Emerald, in the middle.
According to Gizmodo, Jeff Fowler, the director for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, said that Elba put all the work in portraying the red echidna, adding the feeling that he might be a threat that can put the Blue Blur on his toes.
The trailer also showcased Sonic and Miles "Tails" Prower, voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey, battling against Doctor Ivo Robotnik's large Death Egg Robot.
In the scene, the robot shoots a volley of missiles at the characters in the air while Tails is piloting his signature red airplane.
Both Tails and the Death Egg Robot first appeared in the 1992 video game of the same title for the Sega Genesis.
A sequel to the 2020 movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, according to Deadline, brings back Sonic to the big screen as he is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero.
His true test comes when Dr. Robotnik, portrayed by Jim Carrey, returns after escaping from the mushroom planet with a new partner in crime, Knuckles, in searching for Master Emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations.
Sonic teams up with his sidekick, Tails, to embark on a journey to find the emerald and foil Robotnik's plans.
Aside from Carrey, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter will also reprise their roles from the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie as Tom and Maddie.
The movie also has James Marsden, Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Lee Majdoub, Tom Butler, and Elfina Luk.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will hit movie theaters on April 8. Aside from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, according to Push Square, other video game-based movies such as Uncharted and Super Mario are set to release this year.
On the other hand, several reports claimed that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's big video game movie project will be Call of Duty.
But according to FTW, there are no hints of what will be the story of the film, considering that the games under the first-person shooting franchise are set in different timelines.
Neither Johnson nor Activision, the developers of the game, did not post any confirmation if the report was true or not.
