Infinity Ward has been teasing the appearance of one of sci-fi's most infamous aliens this side of the Milky Way. The Predator, or Yautja if you really wanna get nerdy about it, is all but confirmed to appear in the Ruins map, coming in Call of Duty: Ghosts' next DLC, Devastation.
It's unknown if the trophy hunter will actually be playable, but based on Michael Myers of "Halloween" fame's appearance in Onslaught, I have to assume that "El Diablo cazador de hombres" will be playable in some way, shape, or form. Otherwise, why bother? That being said, what kind of weapons are we talkin' here? With Myers, all we got was an axe, odd, as I always figured the butcher knife was the serial killer's trademark weapon. Then again, maybe it was just a reference to a SNL alumni's early days. But I'm getting sidetracked...
The Predator boasts some of the coolest weapons to have ever been wielded in cinema and video game, and the armament is expanded upon with each additional release. Obviously, we won't get access to the entire armory, but let's look at some of the possibilities:
* Wrist blades - one of the more likely candidates, as the retractable shank can be seen extended in one of the more recent trailers. If Infinity Ward wants to keep things simple like they did with Meyers' axe, it's a possibility.
* Camouflage - while not exactly a weapon, this light bending piece of equipment is another trademark of the Predator, and again, something that was also teased. It's also how we first "saw" the Predator in the eponymous 1987 film.
* Plasma Caster - the shoulder mounted cannon shoots some devastating ordinance that can pass right through a man like a hot knife through butter. The only problem is that it needs to be controlled via...
* Helmet - again, not a weapon per se, but still an integral part of the Predator's ordinance. In addition to providing a HUD for the plasma caster, the helmet also lets the Predator see things in a range of different visual spectrums, so prey can stand out against the background.
* Combi-Stick - this telescoping staff functions in the same way as a spear, hurled at long range targets, or as a melee weapon when things get up close and personal
* Net Gun - Self-explanatory, but the difference from the Predator version and out own is that the Predator net restricts once it finds a target, tighter and tighter, until, well...
* Spear Gun - A very effective long range weapon, capable of pinning a target (or one of its limbs) against a wall indefinitely.
* Smart Disc - This one might be my favorite. Think of it as the world's deadliest frisbee, capable of slicing through multiple targets and returning right to whoever threw it.
* Wrist Computer - No one quite knows how much this little gadget is capable of, but everyone knows at least one thing it can do. When a Predator has run out of options, a few taps can turn the area of size of a city block into a smoldering crater.
With such a selection of weaponry, playing as a Predator will make any gamer pretty damn difficult to beat. But impossible? Hardly. Because if it bleeds, we can kill it. After all, there's always the Ripper.
